the oil which i put in the engine is vat free!!
the windsceen wipers to replace are vat free !
the new air filters i put in are vat free!
all costs of an adapted (from new) car are vat free!

How come you get these components VAT free?

I assumed you had a car on the motability scheme, so VAT isn't payable on the lease. Motability deal with re-claiming the VAT on components and servicing carried out in accordance with the lease (as they would in any other business car leasing arrangement).

But if I buy oil or a replacement windscreen wiper blade myself between services, I pay the VAT like everyone else.

If yours is a motability car, then why are YOU replacing filters?
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

    i was not very clear
    i dont pay,
mobility pays for it all and the vat is claimed back, but this is only on an adapted vehical, moblity cannot claim back any vat on an unadapted vehical or servicing or parts, but they can claim back depresiation value or somthing like that.

if i had bought the car (with my own dla money) because i would have bought it adapted it would be vat exempt and when i would get it serviced incuding all parts oil and filters with fittment would be vat free

so all running costs of an adapted from new vehical are vat free apart from fuel

omg i just reread and still it dont come across as clear to me:
    ill try again.

i walk into a garage and ask to buy a adapted from new car using my own dla money to fund it, i pay no vat to buy it , no vat on parts or labour to maintain it ,

if i walked into a garage and ask to buy a normal unadapted car using my own dla money to fund it , i would then have to pay full vat on the car and vat on all serving and parts as normaly would.

if i walked into a garage and leased an adapted from new from motability, motability would not pay vat on the car or on parts or servicing, they would also claim back the amount the car looses in value per year like all companies do

I've bought my last few cars, using my savings. All bought new with hand controls so didn't pay the VAT on the car, had it serviced before Xmas and didn't pay the VAT. How I go about a set of wipers from Halfords, I won't bother trying to not pay the VAT, has for tyres; well at £125+ each I might try, but anything from the dealer is easy since they have all the paper work showing it's VAT excempt.

As for VAT on fuel, the VAT exemption rule on new cars is the purchase and maintenance costs only so NOT fuel, but I have to agree that the mobility part of DLA hasn't increased in percentage terms to cover the increase in fuel price, so if the government increases fuel duty by 'X'% in a year then mobility should increase by a minimum of 'X'% also to cover the extra cost of travel be that fuel or taxi, bus, train fares.

If you "walked into a garage" you would not be able to buy a car VAT-free as you need to be a wheelchair user.
