The Police use "things that are wrong with a car" as instinct and an excuse to stop it. 2 identical cars, one clean, waxed, polished and cared for. One dirty, wiper hanging down etc etc. Which one do you pull. The one with the wiper hanging down and bashed in is more likely to be uninsured, no MOT, untaxed and have other defects.

When I decide to save money by not bothering with road tax and insurance i just need to remember to keep the car looking clean and respectable... :rotfl:

^^ With half as many cars on our roads...

And dare I say it, LESS idiots.... Attitude to driving was very different way back when. Most people even knew how to check their oil levels.

    Certainly was different.
You could think nothing of a few pints at lunch, then take the car out again at night for a few more, and still drive back smoking your ciggy with one hand.
    Ah, the good old days.

I've no rear wiper on any of my cars! lol

On subject of car defects- almost drove into a lorry the other morning. Dark outside, and the silly idiot driving had no rear lights (hadn't connected them), and only sides on his front....

    lol, what tosh! :rotfl:
Not at all. Have you never watched Traffic Cops or anything like that. Often if they're bored they just say 'that looks dodgy, I'll pull it' and it usually has no insurance or something. Copper's instinct. But their definition of dodgy usually means quite a bit older than an 04, looking like it'll fall apart and driven by a young lad, not just a wiper hanging down. No excuse for throwing her weight around.
  • A close relative is a copper and I suspect that it was just a case of young driver late at night, let's just check it out as things are a bit slow. My relative despairs of some of her over-officious colleagues -- those who specialise in motoring offences seem to be the worst.

However, there is an "attitude test" and a stroppy driver is much more likely to have the car gone over with a fine tooth comb and more extensive vehicle checks.

It is also true that when a driver is stopped for breaking the law in some way -- seat belt, mobile phone, speeding -- the odds are that something else comes up -- insurance, tax, MOT, licence, etc.

In this case, the copper made herself look ridiculous and it does annoy the law-abiding public that trivial matters are dealt with in such a petty way. I wonder what exact law is being broken.
    Je suis sabot...

TBH, why shouldn't the Police use the same common sense rules as most of us? I don't park next to a shed of a car if I can help it, and if I'm driving, I'd prefer to space out from someone who's erratic, lighting problems, etc.

The maxim I was taught was "Shoddy maintenance, shoddy driving." While not true of everyone, it's proved useful. If I'm paying more attention to a car that's weaving, or has a bumper hanging off, lights out etc, I appreciate the police doing the same.

Saying that, does sound like it was a quiet night, OP!
  • Is it pointing directly to the ground? If so, it's got to be sticking out as the boot on a 206 is not straight/flat. It curves after the screen.
