I'm going to have a look at it today and see if I can sort it out.. luckily I don't need the car for a few days.. It's actually been like it for a few weeks now and I've been past a few Police cars.

Is there really a problem with the rear wiper? no. It's not to do with it not clearing the screen, otherwise everyone who drives a saloon car would get done. and if it's hanging down if it's against the car, as it's not sticking out. therefore dangerous.

If the police have enough time to pull people over for petty things i wish they would focus on people driving with faulty lights, or the wrong lights on. Im sick of being dazzled by people with fog lights on, especially those who think they look cool driving with side lights and fog lights on. you dont look cool, you look like someone who is too dumb to work the electronics on your own car properly.

But really, deep down, police should be focusing on drink drivers and those without insurance... not someone who cant see out the back window, which would be dangerous if you had to reverse all the way home...

WBA31 - Yeah, that's exactly my point, it was petty and silly.

She definately said it would be quite alright for me not to have a wiper on the rear, it was the fact that it wasn't in the correct position.

The Police use "things that are wrong with a car" as instinct and an excuse to stop it. 2 identical cars, one clean, waxed, polished and cared for. One dirty, wiper hanging down etc etc. Which one do you pull. The one with the wiper hanging down and bashed in is more likely to be uninsured, no MOT, untaxed and have other defects.

Sound to me like copper saw a car that was poorly maintained and wanted to carry out a check for the purpose of public safety....
Tyre's would be an obvious one, if you can't be arsed to fix a wiper then what are your tyre's going to be like?

You can't clean your rear window, you could reverse out into traffic or god forbid a cyclist goes into the back of your car a gets impaled on your faulty wiper!

I seriously want to shoot people who drive about with broken bits on their cars, brake lights that don't work, headlamps out, tail lamps out, flat tyre's and god knows what else!!

    Their attitude?

"OH ITS OK, IT DOESN'T NEED ITS MOT YET!"

My car wasn't dirty, it's a 2.0L Gti on an '04 plate, so quite a tidy little car. It has a standard exhaust, nothing loud and horrid lol. The scratched wing wasn't visible to them until after I was stopped as it's on the drivers side and they were on my left hand side on the roundabout.

Scratch is being fixed in a week, I was gutted about it and she wasn't interested when I told her it had been hit and they drove off.

Bit harsh.. my car is very well maintained thanks..!

I've just had two new top of the range tyres put on, had it serviced and checked over, only had in a couple of months.

The wiper was damaged when I got it and gradually has come loose, and the damage to the car was caused by someone else whilst it was parked.

How you can accuse my car of being poorly maintained I don't know?!

So how do you drive a van with no rear windows smart !!!!?

A cyclist will not impale themselves on my wiper as it's pointing at the ground and isn't sticking out at an angle at all. Try reading the whole thread.

If the wiper is projecting out from the car, then it is a potential danger to another road user. I'm not sure whether a faulty rear wiper is an MOT failure or not.

It is definately not an mot failure, it is not even on the check list for an MOT.

And only hatchbacks and estates have them.

Ok, that type of car collects road crap more than a saloon car but in my view (scuse pun), all cars should have to have them fitted and it should be on the MOT check list, you only need to stop in the rain in any car and the rear views gone.

Regarding the stop. It's simply the time of day/type of car thing.

Small pop hatch late at night, pubs turning out etc, it's the most likely time to get stopped. You can also bet that for every one in the ops position, ie, fully street legal, there will be one that isn't:(.

I echo what everyone else has said, respond with politeness and curse them when they've gone;);). That can also get you out of bother if you do have any minor "illegalities", where ranting will ensure a ticket.

But a broken rear wiper, that's verging on the wrong side of reasonable suspiscion in my view.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • I remember when cars where made with no back wipers, god the accidents that used to happen then.
