I went to my local Cex, Newcastle, which is 13 miles away from where I live because, after doing a comparison on this website, their price for my Nokia N86 8MP said:
Up to £78.00
(mint condition - less cash if not)
My phone was well looked after. I had an expensive screen cover on it and kept it in a protective case. It was never dropped and in fantastic condition but I was only offered £48. When I mentioned the quote on the internet they said that it would refer to a brand new phone just out of the box! Why not state that when giving a quote then. I wasted my time going there as I had seen quotes higher than £48 on the internet - my point is that unless you really think it is worth your time and money then don't bother going to Cex.0 -
On the website "mint" condition is adequately defined -it's "A", and "B" and "C" are similarly defined. I've never even been in one of their stores but from all that I read you're likely to get a lot less than posting it via the internet. I would magine that each store has a different person making the assessment, so sending it centrally is more likely to porduce a consistent approach. Further, as with most things in this industry, buying (or, in this case, selling) through a shop is likely to produce a worse deal simply because a) the shop has a LOT more overheads) and b) it's quite likely the shop staff work on at least an element of commission.0

I sold my LG KC910i Renoir for £28 voucher at CEX, Wolverhampton and brought some blu-rays and DVDs. It didn't smell there either so maybe its just some stores0

Hi, I had a poor experiencing today with CEX the company at the top of the recommendations for the best price when selling your old mobile phone. I called in to their local shop a few days ago, they inspected my phone and said they would give me £19 for it. I said that's fine, I'll come back in a few days once I've got my new phone. I went back today and they offered me £4 for it. I asked why when they had offered £19 just a few days earlier? Their answer "The screen is scratched and will have to be replaced" Yes, I said, but it is in exactly the same condition it was a few days ago. Their reply " That was a verbal quote, when you decide to do the deal, we put the phone through various checks to see that it is fully functioning etc" What!, They didn't say that at the time, there were no conditions attached, just a simple straightforward offer of £19. I told them, that to operate in that way was misrepresentation, a dishonest way of going about business, a way of dealing with the public that would not do them any good in the long run. Five minutes away (walking) I found another company who gave me £15 for it , so I took it. I do not think that CEX should be recommended on this site. They were apparently pulled of previously and were reinstated when they said they had mended their ways, I don't think so. Has anyone else had a poor experience with them? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Why MSE let these charlatans back in I'll never know.
Used the MSE mobile recycle tool to work out how much my iPhone 32gb 3GS would be worth and cen came out a good £30 better than the others. GReat I thought, there is one near my work I'll pop in on a lunchtime.
I had passed cash converters on my way up and got a less that expected quote from them. When I said I was expecting more the staff member chuckled and said that I was going to be disappointed by cen and predicted what would happen.
they would offer me a really high value for the phone.
They would then say the had no cash and I should come back in an hour or two
They would still have no cash and offer me store credit.
If I accepted they would always find a fault with the phone and give you less than originally stated.
Sure enough, this is preciously what happened. I even popped back the next day and hea the same spiel from a different member of staff - how can a shop operate without cash? I even saw, with my own eyes, someone buys ps3 with cash so I knew there was cash before I approached the till.
I walked out after receiving the no-cash line vowing to report them here.
Oh- and the smell IS as bad as everyone posts.
All in all I will never use them and would recommend that anyone seeing their valuation at the top of the mobile recycle MSE tool just laugh for a few minutes before moving on to the second one in the lst.:rotfl:0 -
Hi
Wow sadly I feel like at least it wasn't just me and my friend that has suffered at the misery of a badly run shop (which by the sounds if it just isn't the Exeter branch its every branch!) run by kids that have 0 manners and obviously trained in the art of conning people!
I was giving my iphone to my girlfriend which took me ages to save for so I thought it was time to turn in my Xbox 360s with all my games and her Blackberry so I could buy a new phone. After getting prices from there website I was pretty pleased with the exchange value (cash value really wasn't worth it). So I took it all in and was rudely greeted by a girl who must of been annoyed as she had to come and serve me and take her away from her messing about with her colleagues. They had to test the phone and Xbox I had to come back, ok no problem though I was hoping the attitude would wear off by then. 45 minutes later came back to hear that the blackberry was a grade C which was a shock I was expecting a B at least the phone was mint all boxed everything but the headphones were missing.
OK then they had deducted my boxed xbox 360 £7 because the plastic battery cover from a controller was missing even though I had put rechargeable battery packs in. Anyway didn't exactly have the amount I was expecting but still managed to buy the phone i wanted but on a lower grade. It was a Samsung Galaxy S2 and wow I was chuffed right up until the point after doing a LOT of research to why it wouldn't take my sim.... the phone was blacklisted!! So taking it back tomorrow but half expect it to be an issue. I can understand at the time of testing it may work but why don't they test them before they go out? Don't they have a responsibility to the consumer? Im sure they wont refund the damm petrol it takes me to get there and the parking ticket I have to buy to park. I used a company called Checkmend paid them £1.99 and they check the phones IMEI number send you a report in minutes and needless to say mine was on there as blacklisted. Fingers cross I get a replacement and that don't end up blacklisted too!!! The funny thing they did the same to my friend I think he thought I was making most of it up but he soon found out I was telling the truth! CEX deserve a lot of bad publicity they obviously only care about one thing and that is robbing us from a fair deal! AVOID I know I will in the future!
PS What is with the smell in the shop? Think they are too tight to even buy a fan to cool the 'hard' working staff down... and to buy a phone so you can ring them! Grrrrrr0
