  • Probably about two dozen. Out of my current 10 contracts I've only kept two of the phones - and will be selling one of those (to CEX) this week. I've probably sold at least half a dozen phones to CEX this year without any real problems.

As for the rest; that's your assumption and since most of the complaints are about the shops it's not very pertinent.

I looked online to see which companys would give me the most money back for my old iPhone, Cex came out top with £120.00
On there website i found that they had a store in my local town. The mobile is in perfect working order only thing is that it has been used for 15 months so had some slight wear and tare on it as do all mobile phones when there used.
I found the original box, earphones, sync lead and charger so that the phone was complete with all its original accessories and took the mobile into there shop.
The shop was run by a bunch of young useless lad's, who were very rude and more concerned about what party there were going to , how drunk they would get and how many girls they were going to get with more than serving the queue of customers.
I was told that that they had alot of the iPhone 3Gs come in recently and that if i wanted to sell it to them i would have to leave it with them for 4 days and they would get back to me, he also mentioned that they had no money to pay out to customers and that because the phone had some minor scratches on it, it would be classed as "in not working condition" and they would only give a max of £30.00 for the phone.
Which is far differnt to what it states on there website! for a used fully working with all original accessories etc.
I Was Not Impressed, It felt to me like they had been told to not take in any Apple iPhone 3G mobiles as they had alot of them.
    Very Poor Customer Service
Not a nice place to sell or buy from

I would recommend selling your old phone on ebay i did and i got £160.00 for it in the end.

This was exactly my experience too and if it was the last company on earth to deal with in selling my phone i'd chuck it in the flipping bin first. :)
  • Sent my iphone off to CEX not in the useless jiffy bag they supplied but in it's original box inside a strong cardboard box with polystyrene beans.
I then received it back a week later with no explanation? No paperwork or email at all.
Contacted them via their site by email, they apologised for lack of paperwork and was told phone case was cracked near recharge port? I have checked and there is a minute crack that I needed a magnifying glass to see? This turns out to be a common flaw in iphone 3's.
I have asked why they didn't offer me the option of a lower graded price and to complain about the return packaging, yes, a jiffy bag that only just fit the phone box inside and now the box is damaged it was in pristine condition when I sent it to them.
I have up to now not received a reply to my last email.
Now I need to sell to another outlet and have been delayed by at least a week, this company is a complete waste of time, do not bother with them unless you like wasting time and money, totaly useless service.
  • I've sold to Cex twice now. Once last year and once on monday (12th December). Now, with my first transaction, i opted to receive payment by cheque. Alongside a few old dvd's were some phones all in working order and pretty good condition- I had listed them as B grade on their site. Anyway, a few days later a checked the order status and it said payment complete or words to that effect. Three days later, a cheque came with the post. Now, I've read lots of negative reviews on different websites about the way Cex handle payment. Needless to say, the cheque didnt bounce and was actually dated and signed!

Second time round, I posted all my items through which arrived the next day and this was confirmed on my order status. I should say here that instead of payment by cheque, i decided to choose Bank Transfer (BACS). I checked the order status today (14th December) after sending the stuff on the 12th. Now BACS takes three working days to clear so fingers crossed.

Obviously, I've seen some of the feedback left here too and I'm quite surprised. The one thing that really gets to me is, being quite near to a Cex store itself, I always compare the price I could get on their website to what they offer me in-store. I don't, however, understand why they never have enough money to pay me by cash. Means I have to wait around a whole week to get the same process done online!

Duly sold another phone to them and the money arrived as normal. I've used them often enough now to trust them. I did have a couple of small problems some time ago but nothing that bad. Again, though - I only tade on-line.
  • For those that have traded online recently, may i ask how long the process took?
I sent mine special delivery, for which they signed for the mobile a week ago now. I sent them an email asking the same question, but the reply just stated the mobile is in a queue awaiting testing.
Maybe this time of year the process take longer, but having my mobile for a week and still not done anything with it doesn't sound too good.

I tried to sell a couple of old phones at the Edinburgh store, and halfway through was told I had to be a member. I just wanted to sell the phones not become a member but theyt said Edinburgh city council insist. Eh I need photo id yes but I certainly don't need to be a member to sell to a shop. I sold them to cash generator instead.

My most recent took less than a week, but sometimes they take twice that long. They aren't always the fastest payers, but usually pay more than their rivals.
  • The Romford branch is abysmal. The only deciding factor about them taking old handsets seems to be whichever way the wind is blowing.

As a random aside, and i don't want to take this off-topic, I went there a year ago to buy a dvd boxset for my sister for christmas of "Dempsey and Makepeace". I checked on the website and they had it in stock, but since they couldn't find the box they refused to sell it to me.

I went back about a month ago, having checked the website for the same thing, and I got the exact same response - the dvd is in stock, but we can't sell it to you because there's no box.

So it's sat on the shelf for a year unsold.
  • Sent off phone as cex valued it the highest. No tracking email was sent but they did confirm they had received it when asked and was undergoing testing.

Phone came back 3 weeks later - top had been taken off and keyboard broken. They claim that is how it was received but we packaged it well so don't believe them.

My advice is to avoid them and dont be tempted by high valuations.
