Afternoon all. Had a very bad nights sleep and was up late for my revision this morning, have lots more work to do to keep me busy for the rest of the day. Me and OH well hmm i'm not sure if he is still my OH :( It's very sad and very confusing, I'm trying to focus on finishing my assignment to keep me busy and might go for a walk later.

It was ok when he was in foundation stage to be honest but as he has got older he becomes more and more different to his peers:o
School seem to spend too much time getting him to act the same as the other children rather than looking at why he is acting differently and how they can sort it.
Eg instead of trying to get him to keep quiet and get on with his work why not look at why he is making the noises in the first place. He can communicate !!!!!! why not ask him what is stressing him and try to sort a solution like a teaching assistant taking him out of class to let him blow off steam for a while till he calms. Stop trying to make him fit in as he won`t ever be like the others.
I really hope you don`t have such problems when your DS moves through school but sadly as they get older it seems to happen everywhere:(

Now that just smacks of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole

Now I ain't one to stir up trouble BUT is it worth asking if they have an inclusion policy or SEN policy? Lets face it they are likely to given that most places have to have them coming out of their rear (myself included). You're within your rights to see said policy and you can see if they are adhearing to their own policy. If not I think I'd be ringing Ofsted to make a complaint ;) No point having a policy on how to provide special needs and care for individual children and then not actually doing it. I think given what Noah is having to continually put up with (on top of his own additional needs) it's about time that school were given a rocket up the @rse.

Sorry to hear about you and your OH. No advice but just want you to look after yourself. Am quite worried about you being ill and living in that damp and cold [STRIKE]hellhole[/STRIKE] student flat xx

I am now the proud owner of my mum's 1970's sewing machine. She bought a new one with a view to making new covers for her sofa but her old one was made in Japan and you can see how good it is. The body is metal whereas her new one is plastic. It's seen a LOT of use and I had my first lesson from her today :D

Anyway I need to make a move and pick up kids. Notched up another NSD today :D

Oh and despite all my protestations of never going on a diet again I am joining SW tonight :o:o:o I am struggling to motivate myself (see post earlier - eating Galaxy choccie :o) so I need something to help me find a way forward. I can't count points on WW so I am hoping SW will fit in better with my current meal planning. Anyway I guess my NSD won't be a NSD after all once I've paid to join. Oh well :o

Am not really OSing today as CBA, but will do cauli cheese n wedges for tea:p:pnom nom:p:p
DD is being a complete biatch at the mo, and is in denial about her OH, even tho I haven't put my twopennorthworth in yet:mad::mad:
NPM unless the school are using the funding correctly and giving him the one to one he needs, it wont work in a normal classroom situ:(.I am sceptical baout inclusion unless the proper support is given to the kids who needs it, and sadly that's not the case v often these days:(:(

Tin hat & concrete knickers needed here. The Bursar has been forced to climb down & pay for my eye test, in retaliation she has emailed all staff to tell them that the amount paid towards glasses is being reduced because of 'some people being difficult & claiming more that their due'. She's going to look an even bigger twit when she realises that the amount is set by our local authority & she has no say in it!
    Have a good evening everyone.

    Afternoon all,

Cold but sunny here, we seem to be both feeling slightly more human....have put a chicken with veg in oven to braise and smell is wonderful so maybe am on the mend.

NPM...hugs to you and Noah....can't offer any more help I'm afraid.

Aussie lives on Lamb Island which is off the coast of Brisbane...was reading earlier that low lying areas of Brisbane are being evacuated....its a very hilly city, have seen nothing about problems on islands, seems to be rivers that are bursting banks etc but don't know for sure what the story is with Aussie....will pm her but it will be to-morrow at least before we hear.

JackieG.....good luck with going back to work... has to be your decision.

Have washed the delicate sweaters to-day, they seem to have come out ok, time will tell.

Nothing much else happening here, hugs to all, especially those who are MIA

  • Thanks all for your support:A
Just spoke to the teacher. She says she usually lets him get on with his noises but yesterday and today he has been doing them on purpose during carpet time...looking at her before doing it etc. He says it wasnt on purpose:cool:. So you dont really know what is happening for sure.
He has decided tonight that he has a pain in his tummy and feels poorly....not sure if he is or if he is building up to trying to be off ill tomorrow:o
Butterfly.....what a shame your DS is having so much hassle. Can I ask you does he still make his noises/ repetitive movements etc or has he learned to control them to a certain extent as he has got older.
Adelight...sorry to hear about your OH. How is your cold? I think a few of us are worried about you at the mo....you don`t seem in a very good place emotionally or physically and live in a cold flat:(

Schools are so frustrating when you have a child with Special Needs - I have been fighting the system for over 13 years mainstream schools are NOT geared up enough for children with ASD's
I remember being called into the school for the same reason - DS was making noises in class but the teacher wouldn't listen to our explanation, in the end we had to call in the child phsycologist(sp?) and he was given a proper statement of needs, such as if he was stressed he could walk out of a class and go to a quiet room to chill out or he could just get a book out and read for a while as a coping mechanism, sadly some teachers were not informed of this and he did have a lot of agro trying to make them understand that he was allowed to do this.
It was bad in lower and middle school, but it is much much worse in upper school.
But DS is a real trooper and has risen above this and is now doing A level Maths, Chemistry and Physics unfortunately he seems to be having trouble with a certain Maths teacher - she keeps telling him he will be kicked of the course if he doesn't conform and DH has been up to see the head of sixth form to complain and things settled down for a while but she has started again  so DH is off up there again tomorrow.
DS has decided that he doeesn't want to stay on to do his A2 levels now which is a real shame because he loves Chemistry. He is going to find a course at College instead.

Colleges of FE are much more geared up to deal with special needs and have a special budget. My DD restarted her as/a levels as she really struggled in 6th form with severe dyslexia. She came into her own at FE college. Best decision we ever made!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Hola!

Inside now the sun has gone down. Decided I fancy a cheapie Chinese tonight, will give myself a week and then get my head around the diet, but want to try out my Spanish treats first.

Not sure what works in education, or even that the teachers had enough training when they decided to integrate special schools with the usual ones. (((hugs))) to all those affected. Butterflybrain i would do my best to try to get your DS to stay where he is for A2's as if not he will have to start again with both students and teachers at another place.

Jayward ((hugs)) to you with no heating still. Hope you find someone to install you a boiler soon. Any suggestions of a good installer in West Yorks?

JackieG Well done on your decision, just go steady with it, even if it means finding some help for home.

Adelight If your throat is still bad get yourself to a drop in centre for some treatment. Sorry to hear about the maybe non OH, but your are right to keep up to date with your uni work.

    Hasta luego
