With you on the joint action proposal. One thing to bear in mind is that those of us who paid upfront for 3yrs would want [c] pro-rata refund of unused part of the 3yrs.0 -

With you on that, I'm glad I did not do that though had considered it.
I wonder how you would calculate it?
Would it be the total minus the retail cost of PC £500 as stated or as you could get broadband for 12.99 without PC , would it be cost of broadband minus the actual cost of PC, which would be about £250?
What do others think? Just preparing my arguments for when needed.0 -
If you click on the Cancel Account option after signing in it says the following.
You are currently in contract. This is due to expire on 11 April 2008. After that date you will be able to gain access to this option.
If you believe that this information is incorrect please call customer services
on 0871 424 0185 or use the Contact Us feature to speak with one of our service staff.
Does this mean that we are only bound to the this contract until April 11th??
what's everyone's thoughts on this?0 -
sale of goods and services act perhaps but that means you have to concel within the 30 days not after the 30 days. or to do with Clodes terms and conditions sec 12 regarding failure to provide equivalent or better service following notice but again that would be within the 30 days not after.
will check this out with them etc.0 -
hi we have been following this thread after we also lost our internet with redten.
yesterday morning we were getting 3m but by last night we were down to 200k we are not high users.
we would be more than willing to pay £30 in any attempt to resolve this.0 -
Count me in on any collective action. I am also pursuing my own case through my household insurance legal helpline and will post any useful information I can glean by this means.
The one thing an ISP should understand is the power for people to organise over the internet (that's why the Chinese government is so scared of it) so if anybody from Redten is monitoring this site (do you think they're that smart?) then if enough of us talk about doing it, they may take notice and begin to realise just how disgruntled we all are. So if anybody is just watching this thread, get on and register and post your views. If you will pardon the outright plagiarism, "For a rotten ISP to succeed, all that is necessary is for downtrodden customers to do nothing".0 -

my guess (stress the word guess here) is that this is an automatic date calculated by njp services .. redten have obviously bought njp's "off the shelf" virtual isp package and perhaps that usually means customers giving 30 days notice can cancel their account. My worry is us redten suffers are locked into complex deals with clove finance and reten and it wouldnt be that simple.
Whats also becoming apparant to me (a layman) is that this is a legal minefield with various people having signed various DIFFERING contracts with redten let alone the legality of the clove (v12) finance agreements.
The only clear way forward I can see is wait to see if the capping and throttling of bandwidth is a mistake (I fear, based on my research of njp services/fast4 services that it isn't).
If by the end of next week we're still capped I think then we have to give up contacting all these pass the buck companies i.e. redten, clove and njp service and 1. organise a campaign website and mailing list 2. raise the funds to [a] pay for a mid-size laywer to sue redten/njp/clove AND follow ofcom route on our behalf pay a PR company e.g. 72point.com to get national press attention - as they know the jounralists/have experience getting column inches.
Like everyone else here I am (well my mum is) a redten customer and in no way connected to clove/redten/njp services.
I feel totally conned as I need the net and have exceed the bandwidth 5gb limit (what a joke that is).
So in summary I feel we should
wait and see what next week brings
if were still throttled on fri launch the campaign website and mailing list
collect as many members as possible
if enough people are intrested we can then raise legal and pr funds and pursue the legal and regualatory attack via pro lawyers and the pr attack via pro pr company.
Their not going to get away with this think about it...if they had 2000 customers thats 700 quid per customer they got from clove when we signed that agreement thats £1.4m quid of our money they got up front.
We need to fight this.
I really like all the ideas suggested so far and the fact people are willing to photocopy and find their original t and c, some have website printouts, others have differing invoices etc. Its all food for the lawyers. My gut tells me legally they can weaself out of it but we have to try the legal route and in parallel ofcom and the pr route ... and nail them on one of the 3 routes..who knows maybe BT will sponsor the campaign!!!
together we are strong!

Hi all. I have been watching this threat for some time. You can count me in for some action. I'm a disgruntled Redten customer who panicked on day one and followed BT's instructions and signed up with Tiscali. I had to wait until I was connected with them before I could cancel to get a MAC to rejoin Redten. I'm dreading getting back, especially with the cap. I'm using the Tiscali broadband (who aren't even charging me) until Redten sort out my account.
By the way, I have an original letter from Redten dated 10 November 2006 that states:
"As you have chosen to have your broadband service activated before delivery of your FREE PC the order for the broadband will be processed once the signed paperwork has been received back and the MAC Code supplied."
(Capitals are theirs, not mine). This should prove that the pc is free.0 -
Typically, I never received any sort of invoice from RedTen. I have even thrown away the advert to which I replied in WHAT COMPUTER that promised a free computer for 3 years of broadband...and that's what the guy on the phone said when he took my order...so I've no evidence.
The Clode finance agreement refers to "Description Of Goods or Services : Broadband & PC Pakage"
BTW I signed up to a broadband package with AOL through Carphone Warehouse last week - a 24 month contract for 70Gb monthly limit broadband, and AOL TALK calling plan £19.99 per month and free wireless laptop and router thrown in.
I've just received a letter saying that after testing my line, I am unable to receive AOL broadband. So I wont get the broadband, nor the laptop nor the router - just the AOL calling plan.
Strange that my line cannot support AOL broadband as I live in a new property and have had no problems with Virgin broadband, then Redten0 -
Hi all, ive been watching this thread with interest since the now infamous BT cutoff notice. I am one of redtens later customers (November last year), so i got the cheaper deal £14.49 pm inc router. But like everyone has stated several times im not paying that kind of money for 5gig capped service at the rate its been used by my son and his xbox live it works out at about 10 days service (with no web browsing or downloads/uploads etc) as far as im concerned i signed up for an unlimited service and thats what i want. If your after numbers for some sort of legal action/ media campaign then count me in. Also as i am a later customer (or is that victim) ill try to find the terms etc they sent me and post a copy. Keep the threads alive companies rely on individual complacency.0
