Just a guess, but I reckon it's the RT customers who paid upfront who've been dumped. Interested to hear if any Clode customers are affected. If I'm right then it really, really stinks (even worse than before).
My Internet has been cut off with no walled garden message. I called NJP who said that Redten had paid them nothing for my service and if I wanted my MAC code they could read it out to me.
Can it get any worse?
Is it possible that by not putting anything in writing about the service being cancelled they are making it more difficult for people to obtain refunds from their credit card companies?:mad:0 -
Oh my goodness what a mess this is in.
Im SO glad I managed to get out when i did. Keep up the good work people, keep fighting and pushing - dont give up, never give up, Goonies never say di....... sorry, carried away there.
HATE those t&c - gives them pretty much carte blanche to do what they like with your connection that YOU are paying for.0 -
where are these terms? this is the main problem with these slugs, they change terms and put it somewhere far away. they don't even bother to notify us as I believe must be done by law.
Many have had this mail from NJP inwhich they point us to the Fast4 site to see what options are available to us should we opt to stay (God forbid) with NJP (fastcat ?) and the TC,s there are I think same as the ones posted here

Dear Customer,
You may not be aware but NJP Services Ltd was contracted by Redten
Communications Ltd (Redten) to provide a wholesale service on their behalf
for your broadband connection. More recently, we have been unable to
contact Redten and have made the decision to cease any services provided
to Reten with immediate effect. As a result of this decision we will be
ceasing your broadband service on 30th June 2008.
If you would like to continue using your broadband service beyond this
date you will need to contact us directly so that we might continue your
service through one of our other brands. If you choose to continue your
service with us then you will be able to retain your current connection
utilising the same username and other details as you do currently. In
short, your service will continue without interruption.
If you wish to continue your service with us then please telephone us on
0871 424 0185 before 30th June 2008 in order that we can transfer your
service to an alternative brand. You will be required to enter into a new
contract for this service and make a monthly payment for the service
provided. The new contract is only one month and you will therefore be
free to leave the service at any time by requesting a MAC code (or a
cease) from your new provider. If we do not hear from you before this time
then a cease will automatically be placed on your broadband connection on
1st July 2008. This will normally complete in around 7 days, after which
time you will be able to join any broadband provider that you wish to.
Please be aware that although we have been providing the service to Redten
we are not responsible for the actions of, or the (unknown) financial
situation of, Redten. We are therefore not able to honour any agreement
that you may have made directly with Redten. If you have prepaid for your
service with Redten then you will need to contact Redten directly to
recover any money that you may be owed.
If you would like to find out more about the packages we are able to offer
then please visit http://www.fast4.net or telephone us on 0871 424 0185 to
find out the options available to you.
Our customer service team will be available on 0871 424 0185 Monday to
Friday, 9AM to 4PM to answer any questions you may have.
Yours truly,
Steve Kaye

I heard from Fatcat, that their Fair Usage and Terms and Conditions are not on their website yet as the site is just for registering at the moment.
This may change soon.
Be kind to the kitten!
In this cruel world the terms sack, brick, river and Tabby all seem to fit in the same sentence,
I personally am kind to dumb animals, and I must admit to a liking for !!!!!'s (cats) though I am sure there are many who are no where near as nice as me, who would not think twice to doing harm to a cat, particularly a fat one. :rotfl:

Another customer of Redten ripped off here.
Luckily I got out before allowing them to connect me, so all I'm down is the £50 connection fee (or deposit according to the Clode Finance details). Haven't had that back surprisingly, and I've written, e-mailed and spoken to Redten and Clode on a few occasions about this and cancelling (which they eventually did).
Could someone please tell me exactly what I need to write to legally threaten court action and whether or not Clode Finance are also responsible for repaying me what I am owed? This is for an order from around October 2007.
I know it isn't much compared to what some have lost but I could really do with the £50 back.0 -

Emailed Fatcat to ask for a copy of the fair use policy. No read reciept or reply yet. If they end up being different from my original Redten ones then it is a change of T&Cs and I can reject and be free from the contract at no cost. Do you think so?0

Hi
Fatcat have posted these T+C's on their website
http://www.fatcatinternet.com/fair_usage.aspx;
Fair-Usage policy
Our Fair-Usage policy is designed to ensure your service remains fast and reliable at all times.
A very small number of customers use high bandwidth applications, such as file-sharing software (also known as “peer to peer” or P2P) or other applications, which constantly send and receive many different types of files, usually quite large in size.
This type of activity uses a lot of bandwidth and can significantly reduce the speed at which other customers can access the internet. Approximately 1% of customers use more than 30% of the available bandwidth. We don't believe this is fair to the vast majority of our customers.
Please be aware we may give priority to light users over heavy users. Our Fair-Usage policy automatically identifies the very small number of extremely heavy users and manages their bandwidth, to protect the service for all our other customers.
We think this is a fair approach. It protects the quality of service for the majority of our customers when they most use the service.
Please note we have a collected pot of bandwidth and that is shared amongst our Customers. Hence if some Customer abuse the fair usage policy that we shall have no option but to restrict the download for those Customers.
Am I likely to be affected by the Fair-Usage Policy?
If you don't use Peer-to-Peer or file-sharing software it is unlikely you will ever be affected by this Fair-Usage Policy.
If you are affected, we will contact you by email to let you know that your usage is excessive and is affecting other customers, or you may be disconnected but an option will be offered to purchase more bandwidth if you wish to constantly send and download large files.
Please note: the bandwidth is monitored, please do not abuse this fair usage policy.
The speed affected customers experience when downloading will therefore depend on what these customers are doing. If they are all web-browsing and reading emails, they will experience normal broadband speed. If, on the other hand, they are using Peer-to-Peer or file-sharing software they will experience slow broadband speed.
How can I effectively manage my usage?
If you try and avoid downloading large files where at all possible you will be able to effectively manage your usage, furthermore you will not be affected by this policy.
I think it looks the same as the RT ones. It certainly doesn't have anything about email attachment sizes or streaming video.
Any thoughjts?

had a long hat with fatcat earlier today - they say they don't have a hard and fast rule yet on what is fair use, but claim that some people are downloading as much as 40gig a day (that's who they're targeting.)
tried getting a definitive answer but not forthcoming, so asked what they thought about 20gig in a month. they said be careful. hardly unlimited.
they said they knew nothing of the traffic light warning that has been talked about and also that peak/off peak times made no difference.
they also said the t&c's posted on this site are not theirs, but to keep checking back on their website where they should appear sometime!!!???
asked about the origins of fatcat - they said existed for about 2 wks - partner of clode - have bought elements of redten - don't know if redten still exists.
what can i say? they answered the phone instantly - that alone blows redten out of the water - i wish i could trust them but i still have serious doubts - we've all been screwed over so many times
they said just give them a couple of weeks to prove themselves - but i'm concerned about the ticking clock
edit: i've decided i'm going to hit my connection hard over the next few days to get my month usage up to a decent figure and see what response i get0
