I had a quick look at this thread as at one point I was tempted by the RedTen offer.. luckily I didn't take it up. From the few posts I've read I see people are having issues trying to get MAC's. I don't know whether this will be of any help to anyone but I had a problem when I moved into my current house whereby I wanted to sign up for broadband but didn't know who the previous provider was (and hence couldn't get the MAC). The solution was to phone up BT Wholesale and ask them to remove the tag from my line. The process took a few days (they gave me a predicted clear date) but then I was free to sign up from a fresh. I gather BT aren't always very willing to do this but I certainly didn't have any problems...Coder/techie/business owner, father, thrifty, chilli-mad, drink-lover & tad OCD.0

My understanding is that the MAC system is not applied to LLU isp,s
Have a look here http://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/llu-broadband-migration-and-switching.html
I think that MACs may not be used when switching from an LLU (as in your link) but still apply when switching from ADSL to LLU. As I say, I've tried TalkTalk and Sky - who I'm trying to switch to as they have LLU on my exchange - and they both need a MAC.0 -
Just submitted my small claim via the Scottish Courts.
Unfortunately it will be next week before it is served to Clode as the court is really busy.
I can now stop worrying until the court contacts me.
The end is in sight.

Its all a bit up in the air there are a few posts on this thread where no mac was needed to leave Redten and go LLU as in
shame Im lucky to get adsl max out in the sticks of Cumbria

just been back in touch with ofcom they say that Redten cant be contacted and they are investigating. The gentleman who wants to know about my move to talk talk, just ring them and they will move you no problem no mac code needed. You get a 30 trial. I am paying bt £10.50 for line rental and sky £5 for calls talk talk same price but with 40 gig BB thrown in so I am not loosing anything.Who cares ??0 -

Interesting that it was the question --about release from finance package that got the mac code. This suggests it is Clode pulling the strings and not redten.
If Paul Moody refuses to give you a mac code then NJP is in breach of the OFCOM code and should be reported to OFCOM. I reported both redten and NJP.
When I got my mac, I was advised by Paul that he, Paul/NJP had a list of redten customers and a mac against every name.
I am sure that redten got the mac from Paul to give to me, as Paul was able to tell me before redten.

That is fine if your local exchange has been LLU equipped which is often the case in the big towns and cities, it is rather like the provision of broadband when it started, the towns and cities with lots of customers and fast returns were supplied first, and the smaller towns and slower returns followed, and eventually those of us out in the sticks got included, normally with much slower speeds.
I spoke to Talk Talk and LLU is not yet in our area and there is currently no plans to unbundle our local exchange, therefore to switch to Talk Talk I would have to use a BT line (which would need a MAC code) at £34 per month including phone, which is basically the same as BT's £24.99 for unlimited broadband.
Same thing applies to all other LLU's, until the exchange is updated you must use the BT line. The only other possibility is if you have LLU via cable (Virgin etc), but once again, cable is only run in the towns and cities where a quick return on investment is possible.
Hope this helps to clarify the LLU problem why some people have no problem and other lesser mortals like myself still haave to have a MAC code.

The top of that page is dated September 2005, which, I believe, is before this offer came about.0 -
Clode really are taking the P*** now, just received a letter for non-payment of my DD, have they not realised that I'm in the middle of court action with them.
Called them and the Kerry in collection apologised and said to disregard the letter, what did he think I was going to do, PAY.....
I asked if my court papers had arrived and he confirmed nothing was on there system but that maybe the MD was dealing with it, something he denied a couple of days ago.
Oh well they only have 14 days to respond to the court action and that was issued 1st May so roll on next Thursday.
