Yet another one
I have just rung Clode and guess what, their systems are down. Must be all the traffic trying to sort this mess out. :mad:0 -
I have just spoken to 'Raj' in Redten's broadband support (0905 0990200); phoning the premium rate line being the only apparent means of getting through to the muppets!
I was advised that I would have to send an e-mail to 'mac at redteninternet dot com' with 'MAC code request' as the subject - I should receive my MAC code to my e-mail address within 24-48 hours although I won't hold my breath... (hopefully, it will not be sent to my Redten e-mail address, which I still can't access)
I was asked why I was wishing to move away from Redten - they need to ask?!? Raj said he was sorry to hear that I was not satisfied with the capped/interupted broadband service and lack of communication and, not surprisingly, did not try to persuade me to stay by promising unlimited broadband in the future!
I advised Raj that I had previously sent various e-mails to the other Redten e-mail addresses but had not received read receipts or had any form of acknowledgement that they had been read/were being actioned. Again, he was sorry because Redten 'are definitely receiving e-mails'.
I should comment that Raj sounded genuinely concerned/helpful, which was a pleasant surprise to me.0 -

I have also tried a simple email with that in the subject line and "please give me my mac code" in the body.

I've always found them pleasant enough and seemingly trying to be helpful on the support line, but haven't got any further. I have sent at least 3 MAC requests to the mac at redteninternet address (and copied to care and sales too) without success.
Last week I spoke to Raj who promised to pass on my request for a MAC, but I won't be holding my breath - the 5 working days are up tomorrow.0 -
Yes it is working days but I have asked every day since the transfer to NJP and 2G the 5G the 15g limit
Oh that I could get LLU please god
I may be misunderstanding this, but I can get LLU from BT, Sky and Talktalk but they're still the same - if the line is tagged, they need a MAC code to free it.0 -
I had to try NJP quite a few times before I got anywhere, and when I spoke to Paul, he was always spectacularly unhelpful (and quite aggressive with it sometimes, I felt). Two other people on the line did help me, though (John was one of them, can't remember the other guy's name).
They were careful not to say that NJP were generating the MAC code for me, and I never had any success when I specifically asked them to do so, or pointed out that other people had said they could - but I explained my predicament: Redten uncontactable, Clode having released me from the finance agreement, and saying that were not liable to give me MAC because finance was never activated - and that I had followed NJP's advice of calling the premium rate line for getting the code without success, and asked if he could suggest anything else I could do? It was then that he said he'd look into it (I think he might even have said he'd make a call for me - i.e. he'd be getting authorisation from elsewhere to generate the MAC, rather than NJP doing it on their initiative, though if so, it wasn't clear to me whether this was to Clode or Redten). He got me to confirm again that I was released from my finance package, and said he'd call back (he never actually promised me a MAC, and it was only when I called the following afternoon I discovered one had finally been requested).
My NJP number is 206379 - feel free to refer to that, and ask them to follow the same procedure as they did for me. I do think this will only apply to people in a very similar situation - i.e. where Clode are not involved/refusing to be involved due to the finance agreement not having been activated, but hopefully it can help a few more people escape! Of course, since the goalposts seem to keep shifting, there are no guarantees...
CWF
Thanks for that CWF - maybe I'll try NJP again putting my request a bit differently as you suggest. Of course I'll just put the phone straight down if its Paul that answers - total waste of time.0 -

My understanding is that the MAC system is not applied to LLU isp,s
