great research, please keep us updated of the outcome of your conversation with clode.
After speaking to Consumer Direct, and on their advice, I rang OFCOM, to ask them to confirm that Redten aren't registered with either OTELO or CISAS. They did confirm this, and told me that OFCOM are separately chasing Redten about this. Sounds as though Redten's days might be numbered?
There's a useful link here http://www.telecomsadvice.org.uk/infosheets/ofcom_telecommunications_internet_complaints_ombudsman_otelo_cisas.html
but as phoenixbrighton says, the bad news is that this process can take 3 months!
On the Clode front, I had a lengthy conversation with a chap called Edward. Told him that Consumer Direct had told me that Clode are 'equally liable for any breach of contract', and quoted the Consumer Credit Act 1974, Section 75 to him. He didn't disagree with anything I said, but wanted me to put it in writing (which I've already done - only thing I haven't put in writing so far is the reference to the CCA - but I'm doing that in an email now). He said the customer.relations@cloderetailfinance.com email was the one to use0 -

have tried calling redten 4 times today and as soon as Paul hears my voice he hangs up on me. also have found an article from a computer magazine where NJP have said that REDTEN customers will not be moved to 24Mbps service automatically but will be given the option to upgrade in the future. now that doesn't sound anything like what i was told when service was down0

I tried all day to get through to redten and never got through once.
Phoned OFCOM again on the off chance that if i got someone else they might be able to help explained Redten had cancelled my account and i haven't paid them anything yet they are still providing me with broadband and won't give me my MAC code he was honest and said the only advise to give me other than to write them a letter or see about starting legal proceedings
Spoke to clode asked as they helped get my account cancelled could they help and would they also send me a letter stating that the account was cancelled they said it's not their policy to written confirmation of accounts being cancelled
Think my only option now is to cancel my phoneline then sign up for a new number.0 -

THE GOOD NEWS:
There is a little known government ombessman directly relevant to us i.e. "the office of the telecommunications ombessman" http://www.otelo.org.uk/
THE BAD NEWS
We have to wait 3 months before we can complain to them
I spoke to Consumer Advice today, they did a check and said that RT are NOT a member of this Ombudsman or any other for that matter.0 -
I too would be grateful for the above. That way, we're all sing from the same hymn sheet and sending the stuff to the right place.Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

I spoke to both Redten and Clode today and neither had any intention of doing the right thing. They both pleaded ignorance. I'm giving them until next Friday to do what's reasonable - either reinstate unstricted broadband or release me penalty free. If that is not forthcoming, I will start the forementioned proceedings.
It occurred to me though, if we write to them quoting all the relevant acts and breaches of contract etc, and give them say 10 days to rectify the matter or we'll take the matter further - what do we do if they do nothing?Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.
