  • Went home for lunch to discover a box!

    *A* box.

    The monitor was missing.

Several phone calls later (and boy, does it take them an age to pick up the phone!) it turns out that City Link left behind two pallets from the pick-up yesterday, as they didn't have a big enough van. :-/

Opened the PC box. PC looks ok, but I've not turned it on, yet. The keyboard seems a bit Fisher Price, though - any lighter and I'd have to put a paperweight on it to stop it floating away...

Can't comment on the performance yet, but will report back...
  • I am happy to report that my free PC has just arrived. Everything seems to be present, and I am setting it up now.

The bright red desktop they have installed is very loud!

I guess it's working well if you are still playing with it - or maybe you just can't get back here because it ain't working. :p

Oh Im still playing with it. Everything working fine. Busy transferring everything over from my old PC. I can report that I am VERY happy with this deal. Just hope I don't have to deal with customer services any time in the near future!

  • That's good to hear. Enjoy. Thanks for keeping us all up to speed about it.
  • I can now report that I am VERY pleased with Redten's broadband deal. The PC is fantastic as far as I'm concerned. Very easy to set up and the instructions are well written and easy to understand for anyone who needs them.

The keyboard and mouse are basic, but that's easy solved. The fan is fairly quiet.

I have only come across one small problem, in that the motherboard has only one ide socket, and no spare connectors on the cable. So I can't plug my second hard drive - where I keep all my files - in. But again - easily solved.

So in conclusion, I would definitely recommend signing up to anyone who has been delaying to see if Redten can actually deliver this deal - they can! All they need to do is (vastly) improve their customer service system!

Hey fangbang. I hope that you know that it's pretty easy to plug your old hard drive into new machine and transfer directly.

hate to think that you may be copying to disc first.

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
  • I have to agree with fangbang. I paid upfront for my system (and got the 10% off deal). I needed a new PC anyway, so would have spent the £500 on a new system. This means that I've essentially spent £200 on broadband for the next 3 years - £5.55 per month. Broadband will come down in price, but not that far!

(and, of course, my monthly broadband bill now is nil, as I've paid in advance).

And if the service goes off, no worries as I paid by credit card, and so I'm protected by their rules!

    Recommended.
  • Not necessarily.

You took out a finance agreement with a third party. So as I understand it, you bought a PC and 3 years broadband from Redten which you financed through an agreement with V3. All V3 are responsible for is sending Redten the money. They have no responsibility for the services and/or products supplied by Redten. If Redten go bankrupt, your outstanding debt will still be payable to V3.

Please let me know if my understanding is incorrect however, as beyond the caveat mentioned above I'm quite interested.

Not the way I see it, if you paid in advance by credit card then there is no finance agreement (I assume) therefore you paid money direct via credit card so if things go Pete Tong then you should be protected by the usual credit card protections.
