Got up this morning to find my old Broadband supply was off, but I'd heard nothing from RedTen about the new one being activated (the RedTen onilne support system simply said "not started").
Called RedTen who said it would be activated within the next few days. When I complained that this would leave me internet-free for a few days they agreed to escalate it, and that I should receive my logon details within the next 24 hours.
We shall see...
My experience has been very similar to yours, I have been without internet for two days, I phoned straight away and was told that it would be on the next day, it wasn't so phoned again and asked to speak to the manager, they were busy so would phone me back that day, well they didn't but it's working this morning so I'm reasonably happy. Speed only came out as about 700kbps but I was happy with 576kbps before. Don't think it makes much difference unless you're downloading huge files or streaming video from a web site. I use emule sometimes and it never goes at broadband type speeds anyway. Anyway back to the topic at hand, looking forward to receiving the pc in a few weeks, would be interested to know what graphics slot it has. Customer service doesn't seem that great so far but then I had exactly the same problems with AOL, worse in fact so they gave me two months free broadband. Wonder if Redten will give anything?
Remember to keep the pc (and all packaging) in very good condition just in case it needs to be returned for any reason. (read their terms and conditions)0 -

The company goes back to BBC Micro days and is now a major player in internet IT retailing. I've been buying from them for 23 years and I know a good deal when I see one.
I agree, great lot at Watford but the problems arise when this part of the company get's sold off to another company that milk their purchase for all it's worth and cause mayhem for existing customers who are tied in for the next three years and they refuse to relinquish MAC numbers and then make a loss for their own company that they can then write off as a tax loss!!
Nah, Could never happen.

Savastore have the PC listed seperately here: http://www.savastore.com/productinfo/product.aspx?product_id=10291125&catalog_name=Savastore&page=mainfeatures&pid=44
They also sell two motherboards bearing the motherboard reference 945GZ currently, the cheapest being the Foxconn 945GZ7MC: http://www.savastore.com/productinfo/product.aspx?catalog_name=Savastore&product_id=10292458&pid=44&rstrat=0
and the other one the MSI 945GZ: http://www.savastore.com/productinfo/product.aspx?catalog_name=Savastore&product_id=10292743&pid=44&rstrat=0
The MSI has the Intel GMA950 graphics, the Foxconn is unspecified (more detailed specs here: http://www.foxconnchannel.com/Product/motherboard_detail.aspx?ID=en-us0000220 )
Both these motherboards have PCI express Vido Card slots. The Foxconn takes a Dual Core CPU but the branding sullies the fact IMHO.
This is of course only speculation.0 -
Hi, perhaps like a lot of us I have been viewing this thread with interest as it is a fab source of info re this offer.
I am debating taking the plunge and ordering one of these 'puters' but there seems to be equally as many negatives as positives for getting one.
Does anybody know if the offer is time limited?
I wonder what PC they will be offering in 6 months time, if the spec doesn't change then as time goes on it doesn't seem so good?
Is the spec sufficient enough to run Vista when it becomes available?
I see mention has been made of adding extra memory, graphics card etc, surely if we all start adding extra bits then it becomes too expensive & not viable?
Thoughts?

The spec is sufficient to run a basic Vista setup. 1Gb ram and a decent graphics card are neccessary to run it fully, although it will run with 512Mb ram and onboard graphics with the visuals turned off (that is, the plain Vista theme and not Aero with its flashy enhancements).
Upgradeability should always be a consideration in any new PC. So no bad thing I think. This PCs current spec enables it to run MCE well. You'd be paying silly money to buy much higher spec - not an economically sound plan IMHO.0 -
Got home from work to find a parcel waiting for me - a new adsl router from those nice chaps at RedTen.
I remembered reading something about it on their website to the effect that "you may already have one, but ours is better" so I installed it.
It currently seems to run at 25% of the speed of my old one.

What spec is the pc? I assume it's pretty old and not comparable to this one?
Do you get a free router with the redten deal, I thought it was just a modem? Just bought a router, would hate to get a free one now!0 -

When I phoned them a couple of weeks ago to complain that I had no broadband access due to being cut off by Tiscali despite the fact that I had stipulated that I didn't want my broadband to be activated until the free PC arrived, I was told by customer services that a modem would be sent to me immediately. It still hasn't arrived.
All evidence so far suggests to me that the customer service representatives
Have absolutely no ability to answer any questions or have any effect on any aspect of your order or your account. That has been my experience so far anyway.
They have so far been unable to:
Tell me when the broadband will be activated (even though it already has!)
Tell me when the PC will arrive
Tell me how many email addresses are available
Tell me the URL of the portal or homepage
Send me a modem, despite saying that they have
Answer any of the 4 email queries that I have sent them
...and they are unaware of, and unable to comment on the content of letters that have been sent to me from themselves
I have been using their broadband service via my own modem for several weeks now, and yet it still says on their order tracking page that my service has not been activated yet!
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the PC will arrive soon and I won't have to deal with their 'customer service' department any further!THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT0 -

It's not free, it's an optional extra. I think it was £1 per month on top of the normal dealTHE FUTURE IS BRIGHT0
