You have to pay like £500 for the pc in the first year, then £400 if in the second year, then £300 for the third year (something like that anyway).
Not sure I'd want to pay £500 for a pc that's really only worth about £350.
Either way I've gone for this deal as the only way I see to get free broadband is to pay for sky, or a mobile contract etc. I don't want any of these so there of no use to me.
I had a similar problem that you described earlier. I switched to AOL and they shut off my intenet connection and didn't give me any passwords, software etc. I phoned and complained to one of the managers and got myself 2 months free internet. Worth doing, made me feel better as there's no way they can wriggle out of the fact that you currently don't have braodband when you should.0 -
I rang Redten today with a couple of queries. The phone was answered with a recorded message giving numbers for PC / software / broadband support and I then waited less than a minute before it was answered by a real live human which I thought was quite impressive. The guy I spoke to was helpful and answered my questions without any hesitation.
* They don't have set limits for their fair usage policy
* The monthly payment set now is fixed for the 3 year contract
* The pc is provided free of charge for use during the 3 year contract (not given!), it is the property of Redten until the end of the contract, then it becomes the property of the customer (renew the contract and get another new pc)
* T&C Clause 9.1 - credit card not required, a debit card will do to pay the connection fee, and a bank account for monthly direct debit
* T&C Clause 12.12 - if Redten increase the charges or modify the contract so it's detrimental to the customer, the customer can cancel the contract. I asked if the customer was then responsible for any cancellation/return/restocking fees, and was told no.
So other than the fact it's a 3 year contract, I can't see any drawbacks? Even if the broadband goes belly up, you're not out of pocket if you pay monthly. Doing the maths it still seems like a good deal to me.0 -
I have also leapt into the Redten abyss. But I dont see how I can go wrong.
Just moved to my girlfriends She wants a computer for Christmas - now shes getting one. Told her broadband costs £20 per month and shes happy to pay half. If Redten goes titsup I have their FAQs saved where it says ;
"Are you really giving away a £500 PC for free?
Yes, everyone who signs up to Redten Internet for three years will get a brand new PC absolutely free. As soon as it arrives, it’s yours, and you can do whatever you want with it."
I know their terms and conditions might say something different but this gives some wriggle room to argue the toss in terms of false advertising etc and means I can work on the assumption that the PC is mine.
However must say that so far they have been pretty good in keeping me up to date with whats happening. Yet to receive PC and will post when do but will be interested to know whether anyones got one yet.0 -
Some great points made there, especially the one about if they put the prices up then there are no fees to pay, I guess that means you don't have to pay the £500 for the pc, just let them pick it up?0

Phoned Redten yesterday inquiring about the delivery of the PC. I was given the rather vague advice that it 'should arrive in the second or third week in December'.
I also inquired yesterday about the whereabouts of the Redten web portal. The broadband service is working fine, but I need to set up more email accounts, want to change my password, upload pages to the webspace, etc.
I was told that the portal was not up and running yet because they were 'still sorting stuff out with BT'. Don't know what that means, but it probably should have been done before they went live?THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT0 -
I've signed up to this (by paying upfront with the 10% discount, rather than monthly) as I need a new PC, and other than slightly too little RAM (easily remedied), the spec is just right for me.
I emailed their sales support yesterday to ask about connection date (as I'd provided my MAC last Monday) and they told me early next week (10 working days).
With regard to the PC delivery date, they said it "should be going out around the middle of December".0 -
Finally got my ADSL up and running, the migration was strange, recieved a letter the service was up, old service still up, reconfigured modem and voila. Altho still no sign of pc and my order status still shows cancelled but worth perservering with the customer services0

Well, not the most auspicious of starts.
Got up this morning to find my old Broadband supply was off, but I'd heard nothing from RedTen about the new one being activated (the RedTen onilne support system simply said "not started").
Called RedTen who said it would be activated within the next few days. When I complained that this would leave me internet-free for a few days they agreed to escalate it, and that I should receive my logon details within the next 24 hours.
We shall see...0 -
Well, got home from work to find a letter from RedTen with my username/password settings.
Connected easily, but speed terrible.
Two separate tests showed download of around 1.4 - about a quarter of my usual...
will try again tomorrow...0 -
well, now downloading at higher speeds than I managed with my previous supplier - will keep an eye on this and report back...0
