If a potential adoptee can't even be bothered to go and see the dog, there's not much chance of commitment long term is there?
Some people just want everything handed to them on a plate, I travelled a six hour round trip in apalling weather to view my rescue dog.

This kind lady has gone beyond all reasonable expectations in time, and her own expense in an attempt to rehome a dog that's not even hers.

I find your remark utterly abhorrent, and just the thing to make her decide the whole re-homing idea not worth it.
Expecting her to drive over a hundred miles to show someone the dog. Whatever next?

I hope you make a swift apology, before the lady gives up.

OP, I, and I'm sure the other posters here are filled with admiration at what you are doing. it is also getting harder for you, as the weeks go on to part with him, as your affection for him grows.
I hope he gets a forever home very soon. :A

Thank you so much for this. I also found the post quite ignorant to say the least........

It is getting harder for me to let him go but I keep telling myself it is not about me, it's about him and I cannot give him what he needs.

God, I sound like a right martar now!

And yes, the thought of taking him to a rescue has crossed my mind but I am not ready to give up just yet!

    Thanks again

I'm just trying to point out that capitals, shouty bold letters, calling people selfish or timewasters and generally coming across as a bit confrontational won't be helping the situation. I'm a bit scared of you and I only know you from this thread (which I have read of course).

It seems like the whole thing is really stressing you out, maybe its time to admit defeat and give the dog to a rescue to rehome, they have the experience and the resources after all.

If the person 105 miles away thought they could possibly give the dog a home but had no way to make the journey, what's wrong with sounding out the OP in case she's willing to do it?

It seems she isn't but I don't think merely asking merits a "WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE??????????" response.

How do you know what he asked? I had not mentioned it until you had posted. Assume much? Please see post 71 for clarification. Actually no, I will save you the trouble....

    Conversation went:

Him: I will take the dog, if you castrate him I have one of my own and have been searching for a companion for him I am located xxxx (105 miles away - him knowing where I lived therefore knowing the distance).

Me: Okay, let me have a think as it is 105 miles away, do you definitely want a dog, is he the type of dog you would want, will you be able to help him with his separation anxiety, can you tell me a little more about your home life as he is used to having someone around most of the day at the moment.

Him: well sort of, actually was just thinking about it, lets see how they get on eh, then I will make my decision.

Does that sound reasonable to you? Would you drive him 105 miles there after that type of response? Which is the reason I was so exasperated

Ok, keep doing what you're doing then, you must be pretty confident it'll work if you're so horrified by a little bit of constructive criticism.

You think it's that simple do you? The animal charities are bursting at the seams at this time of year and I have already been turned down by two foster charities and if you had read my thread, you would have noticed that I do not want to send him to kennels.

Are you purposefully trying to wind me up? If not, can you please leave my thread to the people who are actually trying to help rather than making nasty comments and wasting my time.

What you could do if you find a prospective home that is a bit away from you is to see if a rescue local to the new owner will do a home check for you, that's what happened with me. The rescue asked on a couple of forums for someone to come and check me, I was luck as the person that did it has known me for a few years and she runs an animal action group. I had no problem with travelling to Wales as it was me that wanted her, the rescue were doing me a favour buy allowing me to adopt Abby and it was a small price to pay to get her, ok £80 in petrol, adoption fee, spaying and jabs wasn't exactly a small price but she's worth it :rotfl:.

    Thank you Kinski

That is great advice. Can you tell me, do you know if there is a website that lists local rescues nationally (will also look for one myself) or is it just a case of googling rescues for such and such an area when someone shows interest?

Wish someone could see that kind of potential in Bailey :(

Oh, and can I also add, just to avoid any potential misunderstanding that may have been generated from my responses to the insinuations in person_ones posts. I do not think that everyone who asks me questions is timewasting, I do not mind in the slightest travelling to drop Bailey off and I am not in the least bit aggressive.

I hope that all reasonable people on here will appreciate that I was referring to the individuals who emailed me over a matter of several days, convinced me they wanted him (was just what they were looking for) then backed out at the last minute without even an explanation or even letting me visit them with him. I would have been happy to have taken him to any of them and taken him back home again should he not have got on with the family as I made clear to each and every one (apart from the one I mentioned earlier) and this offer still stands to genuine potential owners.

Using "shouty" font now - guilty as charged. Feel I need to get my point accross!
