Not sure if this is the right place for this, but just wanted to ask if anyone had used the Jack of All Games website to buy any of their techie stuff?

I made a transaction on their on 30/12 just before VAT increase, but haven't received the item. Numerous emails sent but no contact, or emails back. They took my money from my card immediately, but am worried now that I mightn't receive my new camera.

I know it hasn't been very long, but their delivery states between 3-7 days, and some of their online reviews make for scary reading!
Anyone have any experience?

Edit: I know youre thinkin was I wise after reading the reviews, but I did make a smaller test purchase and the transaction was flawless.

  • I personally have used them once and won't again. I asked some people on a different forum and they said the site is legit and trustworthy ect.

I ordered a new Xbox 360 drive from them (said brand new) and it came within reasonable time at a reasonable price. When I opened the box, I found one of the legs of the drive (which a screw had to go through) was broken and there was a scratch on the drive. I flashed it ect to make it work with my 360 and connected it up. Didn't work.

I emailed them and explained what I received. They refunded me straight away. Didn't ask for proof, a return or anything, sort of like they expected me to ask for a refund.

I personally would try to get a refund and then never returned. I was lucky enough to buy it through their ebay store so I had a little more protection with paypal as backup.

  • Thanks for the quick replies guys.

I really am disappointed with myself for choosing them on price rather than going with more reputable. Guess you really are paying for peace of mind, eh?

I 100% agree with that statement. The drive I brought was a little more expensive on another site which is more reputable in the Xbox modding scene but I ended up ordering it from there in the end and it was easy. A little more expensive but quick delivery and no problems.

Some cheaper sites are good though, don't let these scammers put you off genuine small businesses.

Whilst Jack of All Games Ltd has a registered office in Coventry it may not actually be based in that area although there is nothing wrong in that practice. There is a clear and immediately obvious link with two other companies:

Jay Two Ltd - dissolved in 2008
Jack of All Games (UK) Ltd - dissolved in 2008

Both of these companies have operated from an address in Leighton Buzzard and shared the same telephone number (they also shared a common link in the shape of the same liquidators). The number it transpires was also shared with a third company (possibly held by JOAG/Jay Two as a franchise) who sold, amongst other things, what would seem to be after-market parts for games consoles. However, it is likely that these companies ceased to have anything to do with the Leighton Buzzard address as of 2006 and the telephone number does not seem to have been reused.

None of this is particularly helpful when it seems the most recent operating address for the company is 22, Market Street, Stourbridge, DY8 1AG (tel. 01384 444600) which can be viewed here on Google Streetview. However, you might want to note the To Let sign over the door although this could be for the first floor premises.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

Worryingly, the to let sign DOES say ground floor so I assume the shop itself is for sale.

  • Mmmmmm.... Now I really am worried! Sod the camera, I just want a refund so I can run for the hills!

So what would you recommend I should do now to try to speed up getting a refund/ credit back from my bank?

  • Appreciated santer... That's my first plan of action tomorro. The number looks a tad odd- maybe missing the area code, but that's two numbers Ive got for them I'm going to ring. I'm also going to ring the letting agent and see what I can find out.

Any advice about trying to get money back thru my bank?

Speak to the bank, they all have their own criteria

My bank told me that debit cards have the same protection as credit cards it's just that it isn't widely known
