  • I have sent them my demand for £14,903.
    The reply,

"Thank you for your recent letter and I apologise for any dissatisfaction caused by the application of charges to your account.

We believe that out charges are fair, reasonable and transparent. We consider that the amounts debited from your account have been strictly in accordance with your agreement with us and our published tarrif, which we are satisfied, complies with all applicable laws and regulations. We are also commited to ensuring the transparency of the information that we give our customers about the operation of the products.

Consequently, against that background, we must differ with the views expressed in your letter and I , therefore, regret to advise you that we will not be refunding any of the charges applied to your bank account.

Again, thank you for taking the trouble to write.

In case you wish to take the matter further, I have enclosed a leaflet explaining the options available to you. I hope you will not finmd this necessary, and if there is anything you consider unresolved, do call me on 028 90 276025 and I shall be happy to help."

My biggest problem is as I am in N.I. and small claims limit is £2K, i cannot file the civil action. I tried at Dowmpatrick CC , and they more or less laughed at me and told me i needed a solicitor, and i need a civil action despite have a N1 filled in.
So every day ticks by, one day probably closer to the bank getting its loophole and I am getting nowhere with this.
    Can anyone please help me?

It applies to any banks trading in the UK. You are using UK law to reclaim the charges, and any banks trading here must comply with the law of the land.

I have just sent off my 2nd letter to ulster bank
I was just wondering if anyone has claimed against them and won?
  • Hi there,

I live in Northern Ireland and wondering can anyone tell me is it possible to re-claim bank charges from the Bank of Ireland. My branch is in Northern Ireland.

The reason I ask is because when I put in a claim for getting bank charges back I am anticipating them saying they operate under Irish law or something to that effect, and re-claiming charges isn't possible with this bank.

Any advice greatly accepted and appreciated,

    Tony
