  • You do not have to have a phone line connected to Sky box - I don't - and they certainly do not disconnect you if you do not have one. I do not have one connected - never have - got Sky installed a year ago. I can connect a phone line if I want to order a movie or whatever but I certainly don't have one connected - have plugged one in once in the last year to order one - Engineer who came definitely said you only need one to order movies etc.so don't worry will be fine

My telephone extension line was faulty and Sky knew cause they kept sending me letters telling me they would disconnet me if I didn't plug it back in.
Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it.
  • You dont need a phone connection to complete your installation. Apparently mine has never been connected from day 1 hence why I couldnt order any movies etc. When I called up the guy told me it doesnt need to be connected.
I kept getting letters from the saying both boxes werent connected so they sent an engineer out 2 weeks ago and guy "sorted" it, well we thought he did but still getting letters!
    I give up :rotfl:

However I am going to call them over the weekend to try get some sort of discount, I have all channels, HD, multi room, BB and phone, over £100 per month, who's the mug here?

u only need a phone line to complete the installation, and if u have multi room - as they send call backs down the line etc they used to send me letters saying mine wasnt connected when it was lol and threatening to charge me full price for the multiroom - eg the full package price! cheek.

i had sky+ for years without having line connected but now i have the new hd box and am on 12 month subs the guy told me to keep it connected for 6 weeks then take it out.

Exactly. And most people probably used similar excuses, so people phoning now are finding it harder to get any decent offers. It's similar to the, for lack of a better word, idiocy displayed by a lot of members when it comes to products being wrongly priced on a company's website. These people actually phone them up to confirm the price before paying. I'm at a loss for words as to where that stupidity comes from whereby you're alerting the company to a fantastic deal for the rest of us, but it exists.

I think in all future posts made by an OP with Sky deals or fantastic product prices, the deals should be placed with clear instructions on how to capitalize on that deal without ruining it for everyone else. But that probably still won't stop some from doing it anyway.

You're new so you probably missed the recent mistake by the Littlewoods group where we got £50 for trying to buy Virgin Experience days wrongly priced.

My friend had to ring as the web was inundated yet the customer service people told her the price had to be correct 'because it's displayed as £x amount'.

£50 for the 'idiot' though :T

    Happy moneysaving all.

Yikes  How can they charge me if I already pay the subsciption @ £10.25 per month? Better get back on to them then.

I believe they are checking up on this now, it's in the contract that you have to be connected for the first year, you definately have to be connected to a phone line if you have multiroom (one or more boxes) otherwise you could be charged for each box separately.
This is because of people cheating the system, after the installer going moving the multiroom box to someone else's house and only paying one sub, so they do check they are both connected to the same phone line

I was a new customer in September. TV + 1 mix, BB & phone £31.00

I called just before Christmas about something trivial & the C.S. OFFERED me without asking just 3 months movies at 1/2 price. I enquired about sports & got the 2 for an extra £13pm. I was happy at this point until I read that most folk here are getting it for 6 months.

Hopefully though come mid-march when I have given them the 30 days notice period they will let me extend it, as most people have had the offer in Jan thanks to this thread & now the MSE email, so, I may have some bargaining power.

RE: phone line - the subby set up our SKY while we were still waiting for the phone line to activate, and, he said it wasnt a problem that there was no phone connected. We occasionally get a message on screen to remind us, but it doesnt seem to matter.

When I first took out my Sky contract just over two years ago I was in a house with no landline connection. At that time Sky did some sort of manual install which involved me paying £25 and the engineer using some sort of machine to do whatever should have been done via the telephone line. This was certainly cheaper than getting a BT line installed, but did seem a bit of a rip-off, especially as the whole installation took him about 5 minutes! I'd imagine they still do the same thing now.
