Sky offer to me (existing Customer)

I called them last week to cancel my sky account with a genuine reason (my Sky+ box keeps freezing and when you fast forward a recorded programme it goes back to the beginning).
I only have the standard discovery, entertainment and kids channels @ £21 per month, they offered me 6 months @ £10.50 plus a free Sky + HD box (no HD subscription required) plus free installation!
I am now a happy customer and enjoying my new box plus the free HD channels.2010 Wins:

Don't blame the e-mail!!!!!! I've been telling people for ages not to all ring because you'll kill any decent offers. You've all been bombarding sky since the topic begun so don't blame the e-mail!!!!!!! Don't you think sky have noticed an increase in cancellation phone calls? Duh!
No one can have a go at me because they know I'm right. Good luck to the intelligent ones who will wait a few months before ringing.
I actually give genuine advice when I told people to hold out. Advice which is common sense too.0 -
Our area has recently been upgraded to Fibre Optic and I called Sky last week to say I'd been offered various incentives to move to Virgin. Was asked if we have our broadband with Sky but unfortunatley the area we're in they can't offer the Min/Mid/Maxi broadband packages and can only off us the £17 one which is more than we pay with BE.
On the upside (although I tried for a free HD box but was told HD has a mandatory monthly subscription) I did get ESPN, Sports, Movies and our other 4 packages for 1/2 price for 6mths - saving us about £150 :j
Have been a Sky customer for about 8yrs now and will be one for at least another 6mthsFeb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Exactly. And most people probably used similar excuses, so people phoning now are finding it harder to get any decent offers. It's similar to the, for lack of a better word, idiocy displayed by a lot of members when it comes to products being wrongly priced on a company's website. These people actually phone them up to confirm the price before paying. I'm at a loss for words as to where that stupidity comes from whereby you're alerting the company to a fantastic deal for the rest of us, but it exists.
I think in all future posts made by an OP with Sky deals or fantastic product prices, the deals should be placed with clear instructions on how to capitalize on that deal without ruining it for everyone else. But that probably still won't stop some from doing it anyway.0 -

So what happens when EVERYONE holds out? Then they just get bombarded in a month or so instead? Your "advice" isn't quite so logical as you seem to think!
Still, another comedy post....0 -

How is your 50% off for 6 months going? you know, the same deal you got a week or so ago that pretty much most of us have? How come you didn't follow that super dooper advice you're quoting and wait a couple of months then?0 -

I was holding out as people had suggested, and now Martin's email has suggested everyone rings Sky for a better deal. That's going to inundate Sky with calls so can't see the point trying now.
I can see why Martin thinks he's doing a good service by telling everyone but he's effectively probably killed the deals now.

I'm probably going to get slated for this but isn't the main focus of MSE to save money for consumers? Judging by the posts on this thread, I would be so bold as to suggest that most people who called received a deal, in fact, it seems people have even called today and have still received deals. At some point, the offer of a deal will end, regardless of whether or not its listed in this week's email.I love Frazzles!0 -
I rang Sky this morning & got free HD box, free installation, 6 months half price HD subscription & 25% off my programmes for a year. I didn't even realise it was a tip in the e-mail as I had received mine at that point, I have kept seeing this thread & thought must ring up so I finally did!0

Be positive - Sky might sh*t themselves at all these people suddenly ringing to cancel thinking their business is gong under, you might get the deal of a lifetime
Always a flip side...........0
