I attempted my first batch of these a few weeks ago - they were a hit!

Once you've got the basic oats / syrup / butter / sugar recipe cracked, you can experiment with other bits to make different "flavours". Try chopped nuts and / or dried fruit, seeds etc., fresh or frozen fruits (although obviously these don't keep as long as the dried fruit types), spices such as cinnamon and coatings like chocolate and so on. I usually just add a bit of whatever to the basic mixture or if I'm adding a lot of fruit etc., I might reduce the quantity of oats a bit. I love flapjack!
These recipes are very easy:

This is the one I use at work (I double the quantities to make a massive one)
Melt together:
75g light brown sugar
225g golden syrup
250g butter (or marg if that's what you have)
When melted, add 375g oats, mix it all together, press into a tin (if you line it with parchment it'll be easy to just lift out the flapjack) and bake for 15-20 mins at 180ºC until it's starting to look golden - it will still be very soft but will firm up as it cools.0 -
This is the recipe I use its really easy
3oz sugar
3oz marg
4oz oats
melt butter and sugar together stir in oats put it in a suitable oven dish and cook about 180 for about 15-20 mins.
Due to the size of my preferred dish i triple this recipe.
Have also included various dried fruits etc.

I use a microwave flapjack recipe (probably found on MSE somewhere)45ml/3 tbsp Golden Syrup
100g/4 oz Sugar
100g/4 oz Butter
225g/8oz Rolled Oats
1 Egg Beaten
5ml/1 tsp Baking Powder
Pinch of Salt
Put the golden syrup, sugar and butter in a container. Cook on high for 2-3 minutes or until the sugar has dissolved.
Stir in the rolled oats with the beaten egg, baking powder and salt.
Spread the mixture into a round, shallow container (18-20cm/7-8 in) lined with non-stick or greased greaseproof paper.
Cook on high for 4-6 minutes, turning the dish once or twice in microwaves without turntables.
Allow to stand for 5 minutes, then mark into sections with a knife.
Allow the flapjacks to cool in the container before cutting them.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
Hi all,
I have made a big batch of flapjacks this afternoon, and just wondered how long they last for in tuppaware - assuming I haven't eaten them all by the time I go to bed?
Can I freeze flapjacks - using oats, sugar, cheap marg and golden syrup?
Finally will "value" syrup work as well - I chickened out and bought the branded stuff this time, but would prefer to use basic in the future if it makes little/no difference to taste.
Any advice would be great
Many thanks

Never last more than a day in this house unless freeze them! Value syrup is ok, not as nice a taste imo but on a budget it does.Trying very hard to be frugal and OS - just plodding on and doing my best!
