MMR & autism Not just bad science but also falsified

So you plan to ignore 10 years of research disproving the correlation between MMR & Autism? To me that shows a pretty major level of ignorance.
1. Autism symptoms show up around the same time that the MMR vacination
2. Autism rates are not increasing (but diagnosis of autism may have increased due to greater awareness)
You are wrong. And there's a lot of scientific evidence to back that up
Having worked with medical doctors.. they don't always make the best scientists. Then again i've seen a few Professors design statistically insignificant experiments.
12 patients doesn't make a very good sample group.0 -
Andrew Wakefield (and not Doctor anymore because he was struck off for his very misleading study which did not prove anything!!) really annoys me. The mass histeria he caused has been phenomenal and I just cannot understand how people still believe there is any link between the MMR and autism when study upon study the world over has disproved any link. If there was a link you would expect over the years there to be an increase in the number of sufferers of autism through the transition between child and adulthood....but there hasn't been. The rate has remained at 1 in 100 in both the adult and childhood population for many years. My take on it all is that not only are the symptoms of autism apparent at the same time as the MMR is given, but also that human nature means we wish to attribute a cause to the development of something so life-changing. Nobody likes to not understand what has caused something....but sometimes we just dont know what has caused it.
With regards to the mass hysteria also around overloading a child's immune system....the human body is an amazing creation, and research has actually proved that a baby's immune system (as long as they have no underlying conditions affecting their immunity) can actually cope with many many immunisation at one time. In fact some research even suggests their immune sysytem can cope with up to 10,000 vaccines at once, because the challenge the vaccine provides to the immune system, although is very effective, is actually very small.
And finally to end my rant.....single vaccines. No country in the world recommends the single vaccinations. Firstly the injections have to be given in a course of 2 each, therefore the child needs to receive 6 individual stabs to ensure they receive the full protection. Between the 2 doses the child is still very much at risk from the illness because they do not yet have full immunity to it. I will never understand how parents do not wish to give the MMR which has time and again been proven safe and effective, but most of all is licensed in this country, but instead wish to give their child the single vaccines, which are produced abroad and therefore are likely to protect against the strains of the viruses found in those countries, rather than those found in this country (meaning you are not protected anyway!), but most importantly they wish to give their child an unlicensed vaccine. Drugs and vaccines in this country have to adhere to strict conditions to become licensed so why expose your child to the risk?
I fully repsect every parents right to make an informed decision regarding whether to vaccinate their child or not, along with an informed choice as to which vaccines to give. However my only wish is for them to make a truly informed choice once they have read all of the available literature, which is based on fact and truly unbiased, thorough research, rather than the seriously 'unprofessional' research produced by this man0 -
I have aspergers but as I was born in 1972 I didn't have the MMR jab so it obviously was nothing to do with that but probably more do to with my dad being different.
He was labelled as naughty at school but I can see so many autistic traits in him that I believe that where I got it from.
2 of my 3 children are also on the spectrum, my eldest son has aspergers & my younger son has asd/dyspraxia with motor/vocal tics.
All 3 of my kids had the MMR jab but to me it's more likely that I passed my autistic genes onto them.
Luckily my daughter is fine although I do sometimes think she may be dyspraxic as you can have autistic traits without being diagnosed as autistic.
I think that alot of kids including myself have grown up without being noticed & perhaps just written off as naughty or odd when in fact they have autistic traits or are actually on the spectrum.
I am pregnant now with my 4th child & won't hesitate to let my baby have the MMR jab as i'm fully aware that as i'm autistic & 2 of my kids are there is an increased risk that my baby could be too.
I'd much rather have my kids vaccinated than run the risk of them getting ill & even if my baby is autistic I will love it will all my heart anyway.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

hun? my GP and health visitor refuse to give the MMR to any child with a history of autism/Aspergers in the family. you are Autistic and you say that two of your kids are Autistic too? and you are still willing to run the risk of the MMR? Even the pro MMR sites say that any history of Autism in the family should be a contra indication to having the MMR.
my daughter had the single vaccines and still caught measles - very badly! so I wasnt that impressed with the measure of protection! my son had the single vaccines too and he caught measles! mildly I grant you! but I didnt have a measles vaccine and my dose of measles as a child was mild!
my third son however was absolutely fine until he had the first dose of vaccine - I took a beautiful, sunny, happy baby in for his vaccine and came home with a screaming, very ill child! and NO-ONE listened to me! the most I got was 'oh some babies react like that to this new vaccine'! he screamed day and night for weeks! then he wouldnt be cuddled, he developed severe asthma, he was hyperactive............. he didnt have the next two doses! and I am so glad he didnt!0 -

I wasn't aware of that tbh neither myself nor my 2 boys were diagnosed until much later, I was 33 & my 2 boys were 10 & 9.
Obviously if they refuse to do it there is nothing I can do but I honestly don't believe that the jab gave them the autism as most likely I did.
I'm sorry about your son though & maybe MMR can cause some people problems but if you have a family history of autism then isn't it more likely that your kids will be autistic anyway or is that just my asperger's mind trying to be logical about it.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

Cheryl has been deaf since before we started school, the nerves that control her hearing are completely shot. She cannot speak, hear or balance properly, she uses BSL but because hardly anyone uses that she is unable to communicate in a day to day situation. I think if you asked her she'd tell you that she would have wanted the jag. I know what autism is, I am autistic. I'd rather be like this than have no clue wether there's a fire alarm going off or if the baby (she has a son) is crying or not.
I wouldn't wish completely losing one of the 5 senses on anyone. Would you rather your autistic kid was blind? Had severe brain damage? Was dead? All are effects of one of those illnesses on its own.
You know what YOUR autism is like, presumably you are able to function relatively well in society and are able to care for yourself and live independently. My 18 year old son would have no idea that the noise driving him mad was a fire alarm and that he needed to get out of the building. Actually yes, life would probably easier for him if he was blind with the potential to work, have relationships and possibly a family, rather than severely autistic with a severe learning difficulty, limited communication skills (and many other developmental delays), continence problems, who is totally unable to care for himself and will need 24 hour support for the rest of his life. So, I like many other parents didn't want to do anything that could possibly increase the risk of our other children (who already are at increased risk) developing autism, especially when there was an alternative. In some situations no matter how intelligent you are, no matter how much your head tells you it will be OK, you still go with your heart.0 -

I am still conflicted about it, as if they decide to go to Uni, there's a good chance of catching all these things if they haven't before then,
They won't be allowed into Uni if they haven't had both MMR jabs.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -

Rubbish, three of my sons have been to University ( all graduating in the last few years ) and none of them have had the MMR nor ever been asked about it.0
