MMR & autism Not just bad science but also falsified

No amount of diets and supplements will cure autism, if I could be normal by changing my diet I would have done by now.
ETA I think these days parents forget just how serious the conditions their children are being vaccinated against are. My friend is deaf because she got measels.0 -
I didn't have my children who are 8 and 11 vaccinated, son one was born at the height of the MMR hysteria, and while at the time the extensive reading I did made me think something didn't quite ring true, I didn't want to take the risk. He has Asperger's. Maybe if he has the jab, he would be worse affected, maybe not. I tend to think that the increase in diagnosis of ASD's is more to do with an increase in awareness and acceptance of these conditions. Having said all that, I still haven't chosen to have the boys immunised as I don't think its a good idea to overload their immune systems with this triple vaccine. MY son's paediatrician scared the life out of me last year when she asked me if I thought my son would thank me if he caught mumps and suffered infertility thought!
I am still conflicted about it, as if they decide to go to Uni, there's a good chance of catching all these things if they haven't before then, and she's right, I really wouldn't want either of them to suffer through a choice I have made, but then, I made this choice so they wouldn't suffer, didn't I? Its a hard job being a parent, it would be nice if the Government would see this and offer us the choices we are looking for. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0 -
My eldest son had the first and booster jabs of MMR - it failed, he has had mumps twice in his teens.
Middle son had the first jab but already had some problems....when he had the booster jab, he deteriorated excessively within a day or so.
Youngest, although slightly weird (he didn't like cuddles, he used to cry to be put down, not picked up), was developing normally otherwise. He was my earliest talker and was very interested in his surroundings. After his first MMR, he stopped talking, he stopped taking an interest in his surroundings and became this inanimate thing sitting in his pushchair or cot. He didn't have his booster because of what happened with middle son.
Both middle and youngest son have a bowel disorder, it was always there with middle son but only developed in youngest immediately after the MMR. Eldest (the one the MMR failed on), has no bowel problems.
My personal belief is that the MMR can trigger autism in susceptible people, people who may not have gone on to develop autism but has some kind of gene which is switched on by the MMR.
I'm just glad the MMR failed on eldest! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
I never got the boosters or any other jags after the MMR for some reason and then when I wanted to travel to Africa I had to have a shed load of jags for tropical diseases plus all the childhood ones that I missed - I definitely didn't thank my parents then!0

Whether they are founded or not I have concerns about the vaccination schedule for babies these days, IMO it is far too intense. I believe his studies were in 1998, but there were concerns in 1994. The problem in proof is causation and correlation.
This is definately true, my first son is autistic (we don't believe linked to MMR) so when I had my second son in May 1997 and signed consent for vaccinations it was agreed that he would have single jabs when the time came for MMR because he had a sibling with ASD, it was accepted there may be a link in isolated cases.
At his eight month check up with the health visitor in January 1998 this was reiterated, and I was told to call the surgery around the time of his first birthday to make sure they had the single vaccines ready. A month later Andrew Wakefield's report came out and by the time my son was due his jab I was told no, he couldn't have the single injections on the NHS.0 -

That was/is my thought on it too Sue.It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0 -

Diets and supplements won't cure autism, granted, but if they help to relieve symptoms by even a small amount then they are worth doing. I would give anything a try if I thought it might help my DS.
Re your ETA, if you surveyed 100 parents of autistic children (especially those high on the spectrum) and asked them if they would rather their child be autistic or deaf I think I know what the results would be.0 -
My own feeling is that there has been a massive increase in ADHD, Aspergers and Autism since the MMR became the only vaccination option.0

This is where the problem lies. People don't realise quite how bad these infections are. They kill and disable, but because we've had inoculations for them for so long we've forgotten as a society how bad they are.
If there was link between MMR and autism someone would have proved it by now. There plenty of data been collected.
With all due respect humans quite often mistake cause and effects just because Event B follows from event A does not mean that event A caused event B.
Autism Is increasing been linked to genetic Factors Quite often runs in male side of families. The rate of autism in places like silicon valley in the US is higher than others. They reckon its because smarter people have more autistic traits. They bread with other with some autistic traits/genes and the effect are multiplied.
Feeling and intuition are not good enough to start recommending that people should stop taking medication that has been proved to have great positive effects. You need decent properly collected and analysed data just like the stuff that says that these inoculations are safe.0 -
Cheryl has been deaf since before we started school, the nerves that control her hearing are completely shot. She cannot speak, hear or balance properly, she uses BSL but because hardly anyone uses that she is unable to communicate in a day to day situation. I think if you asked her she'd tell you that she would have wanted the jag. I know what autism is, I am autistic. I'd rather be like this than have no clue wether there's a fire alarm going off or if the baby (she has a son) is crying or not.
I wouldn't wish completely losing one of the 5 senses on anyone. Would you rather your autistic kid was blind? Had severe brain damage? Was dead? All are effects of one of those illnesses on its own.0
