i had a k series engine in my mini i discarded that after a while and stuck an a series back in it much quicker and more fun
all three rovers were scrapped as they were rubbish 1 of them didnt even get to the scrap yard they had to come and collect me i was about a mile away. the head gasket went on one continuously after getting the block and head skimmed and in the end it pee'd me off. the other one managed to loose its water out of the radiator and the chocolate drive shaft snapped at the same time (never did work that out)
and the 416 the abs pump went causing the brake pedal to creap to the floor after buying servoes master cylinders, calipers, cylinders, pipes so that got chopped up dont even get me started on the 214's they decided to stick a MG badge on lol
So you have driven a 214, I apologise, but I don't blame the car when it is almost certainly the mechanics fault when a head gasket blows time after time.
The K series engine is actually fairly advanced for the time it was developed.
There is now a proper fix for the K series, as the chinese owners decided to give the engineers enough money to actually engineer a proper fix, if the money was available 10 years ago then maybe Rover would still be here.
Unfortunately BaE was never really interested, BMW just wanted to cherrypick, and that last lot of idiots just wanted to strip the last of the good meat off the bones.
If we showed the kind of loyalty to our nationally produced goods that other countries do then maybe the entire country wouldn't be such a shambles.
Even when you think about the number of Japanese cars they drive in N America, you need to consider that a fairly significant number are actually built in American factories.
I have nothing against a BMW or a Subaru, nothing against any make of car really, but as far as the NHS, Police or any governement funded organisation are concerned they should all buy British.
If a UK company doesn't exist than at least buy things made in the UK, the LAS used to do this as did the Met Pol, we had LDV's and Vauxhalls. Not the best but made in the UK.
Now we are buying Mercs, the new ones being crap though. The Met have some BMW's but loads of Astras. The LAS is now looking at Skodas, they are good value, but I can't help thinking we should wait for the new X type Jag or my preferred option just buy the new Astra Estate, not as cheap perhaps but it keeps British workers employed.
Maybe I am a dinosaur, but I respect my French firends ability to buy French in almost all cases, simply because they believe French is best.0 -

Got to say the best thing ever done at Longbridge was the job of knocking it down.0 -

the head gasket is nothing to do with the mechanics they just blow all the time
thats why the m25 is always scattered with steaming rovers0 -

They are stupid if they buy French cars based on that belief, I buy whatever make of car that suits my requirements best. I don't really care where it is made.0 -
