  • It could always be the case the the fuel gauge is faulty.

    Have you checked it?

I'm always surprised by the number of people who think changing their car is a way of saving money.

God dont say that...my megane was the convertable type and generally used £20 per week to get me to work (3 12hr shifts per week). Wanted to downgrade to save money - not end up putting the same amount of petrol in the tank!

Well if that was the only reason for changing car you really should have compared the MPG and done some sums (including all the running costs, not just fuel) before changing.

The corsa isn't a very economical car on petrol, I do a very high mileage and mpg is therefore very important to me and I discarded the corsa very quickly when I changed my car. I have now had two renaults in a row as the fuel economy is excellent without sacrificing too much on performance or comfort.

If it was pure fuel economy I'd probably go for a Seat Ibiza Ecomotive, but the performance and comfort aren't what I need for my long commute so I have a Clio DCI.
  • sill yisnt it i know a lady that had a 54 plate 1.4 corsa and she traded it in against a 58 plate 1.2 corsa in an attempt to save fuel

she gave them the corsa and about 3k cash i think 3k is a lot of fuel and it actually uses more becuase small engines are a waste of space

unless its a bluemotion polo and then it uses hardly any disesel at all

The Seat Ibiza Ecomotive is virtually the same car as the Polo Blue Motion, for considerably less initial outlay and less insurance! You pay a lot for a VW badge.......

The 1.2 Corsa is a bit of a disaster, if you get the same car with the 1.3CDTi it is a nice little city car, we have a few at work, they are general runarounds and no breakdowns or problems, but maybe it doesn't have the DPF that ruins the larger Fiat engined Vauxhalls.

I actually thought the 1.2 Corsa I drove was broken it was that slow, and it was worse on fuel than the Rover 214 that was in the bodyshop, my mate was happy to have his Rover back.

If I put £10 of diesel in my Mondeo then it would hardly make a difference to the guage, not even enough to turn off the fuel light, when you think about it £10 is only just a shade over a gallon and a half.

Last weeks economy in the wifes Clio DCi, used around town mainly, 63mpg.

We have a 1.0l Corsa at work- it is glacial bit like a go kart. Fuel economy seems fine and the 1.2 isn't too bad though, it moves fine. I would say a 1.4 might be the best balance, but better to look at horsepower than cc.

that must have been one bad corsa i have never heard someone say they were glad to have there rover back
