that must have been one bad corsa i have never heard someone say they were glad to have there rover back
You have probably never driven a Rover 214, they are not bad cars, 40mpg, good handling, very chuckable, bought with a blown headgasket (4 yrs old, never had the water level checked for months) for pennies 3 years ago, no problems since.
You have now heard of somebody glad to have their Rover back so you can cross that off of your bucket list, no thanks needed.
Rovers are a lot better than some people think, who cares that they had an issue with the head gaskets, fairly often the peoblem can be traced to poor maintenance or poor repairs with cheap parts when it does go.
Perhaps the UK would still have a car industry if people stopped slagging them off for reasons that they haven't even experienced.
Just so you know the Chinese owners have funded the Rover engineers to come up with a problem that solves the head gasket issue once and for all.
The K series is actually a nice engine, revvy and economical.
When you convert a Metrocab to LPG from diesel guess which engine is used, thats right the 1.8 K series.
At least the issue with the K series engine and Rovers isn't lack of character and blandness.
The Rover 600 was a good car, as was the Rover 75, the 75 was used by loads of Executive Private Hire Companies (In London)until the company was stiched up for short term gain.
My mate was a fleet manager and bought over 60 of them over 3 years and they never had a single breakdown.
The customers actually complained when they where removed from the fleet. And replaced with Toyota Avensis.0 -
so If I put another £10 in would I expect to see the gauge move to half a tank?
Twenty quid fill up to get half a tank!! You'll be lucky...Maybe a year or so ago £20 would've given you nearly half a tank but not now!
I bunged £20 into my 206 yesterday,running on empty when I did, & I barely got over a quarter of the tank!
Where I live it's £1.35 a ltr unleaded in one garage & £1.28 in the other!:mad::mad:0 -

You have probably never driven a Rover 214,
I have had 2 x 214 & a 416 rovers the k series engine is ok but the head gaskets are a bit rubbish
i had a k series engine in my mini i discarded that after a while and stuck an a series back in it much quicker and more fun
all three rovers were scrapped as they were rubbish 1 of them didnt even get to the scrap yard they had to come and collect me i was about a mile away. the head gasket went on one continuously after getting the block and head skimmed and in the end it pee'd me off. the other one managed to loose its water out of the radiator and the chocolate drive shaft snapped at the same time (never did work that out)
and the 416 the abs pump went causing the brake pedal to creap to the floor after buying servoes master cylinders, calipers, cylinders, pipes so that got chopped up dont even get me started on the 214's they decided to stick a MG badge on lol0 -
I've never really noticed a big difference in petrol costs for different cars over the years, maybe a few quid a week, I think the bigger savings in running smaller cars are the cost of insurance, tyres, road fund licence etc.
The only time I put a tenner in the tank is when I'm on my way to do a part-ex.
I normally put between £35-40 in my Focus and fill it to the top, I refill when it drops down to about 1/4 left on the gauge.0 -
A lot of my friends have a Corsa, ranging from 10 years old up to brand new off the forecourt, and all complain about the fuel consumption. I am quite happy to nip around in my Rover 200 1.4 (v reg), only problem was when i put a new stereo in and my mate wired it up wrong, so it was draining the battery. I've had it two years and its still going strong!0
