Best HTC Phone Deals - Post yours here

  • I currently have a SE W995, but want something better for internet and email etc.

I have been offered the HTC Desire for £19 a month with 300 mix and match text and mins, and 500mb internet, which is plenty for me. Taken the deal with 3 on a 24 month contract.

I dont know much about smartphones, but use my current phone for music and camera as well as a phone.

Any opinions good or bad about the Desire would be appreciated, thanks.
  • I took out a 2nd mobile contract just to get the HTC Desire (worked out slightly cheaper than buying it PAYG) and I love it :D

Best phone I've ever had, great build quality (my manager's dropped his down the toilet and after 24 hours or so drying out it still works, try that with an iPhone!), everything seems slick and speedy on it, it runs Android 2.2 and has a massive userbase so will most likely be supported by HTC for a while to come despite the Desire HD and the Desire Z being released and when HTC do drop support for it (it happens for all phones!) then there's a large userbase who will most likely continue to develop for it and support it.
  • Thanks for that, have heard it is better than the iphone 4 for apps etc. What memory card do you use? They will include a 2GB card but looking for 16GB.

Mine actually came with a 4GB card, but I have a 16GB on the way from Amazon just now, I would have got the 16GB one earlier, but I only took out the contract in December and I was hoping santa would bring me one!

I've been avoiding storing much on the card because I know it'll be getting replaced, but you probably will need a larger card if you're anything like me as I like to experiment with a lot of apps etc.

The iTunes app store does have more applications, but the Android market place has a better selection of apps, less useless apps, better free apps (try beating google's turn by turn sat nav app on the iPhone for free!) and it's main appeal to me is it's openness, anybody can develop an app for Android, with the iPhone apple control what you put on your phone unless you want to void your warranty!

The battery life just like any smartphone does however suck and you will find you need to charge it every night especially with heavy use.

So far I love the phone, the only issue I have is there's no physical camera button so you need to launch the camera app and take photos with that.

The phone its self is great though, it's my second Android phone and I love the HTC Sense GUI and my phone does so many things as standard that I'd have to install an app on my previous phone to do!
  • I will be asking for so much advice once I get the phone, have no idea what apps I will need or even what to do with them!! I know that you can get one for the iphone which will track your cycling or walking on a map etc, so will be interested in something like that.

Have seen a 16gb sandisk on amazon for £15.49 - is that what you have ordered?
  • Yeah, Google themselves have released a free app that does exactly that, it's called MyTracks and it'll allow you to export the data too which is nice.

    Yeah, that sounds like the one I ordered :) ;
Amazon.co.uk items (Sold by Amazon EU S.a.r.L.):

I love mine too. It's my first smartphone but it's been really easy to use and get apps etc. The gps on mine appears to be broken though, but apart from that I am happy with it.
I think the camera is very good.
  • Speaking of the camera it's worth mentioning with the latest update you can take video in 720p which is quite impressive considering it's a phone :)
  • I've had mine for just over 6 months and I'm still learning what it does
I didnt want to go down the iphone clone route.

I'm totally confused by the array of online mobile providers. I've always used the 02 shop however I've been on sim only for a long time now and it's time to upgrade. I've finally found a phone that I actually want.

I would be lucky to go through 100 mins a month or 50 texts a month however it looks like I have to take lots of mins, texts as they seem to be the basics of all the bundles. I do need 500MB download allowance. Will use a lof on free wifi at home.

I'm a member of topcashback.co.uk so can use these.

Where do I even start to look for a deal? Any good comparison sites for mobiles or any recommendations for a deal?

    Thanks
