I'm freaking out. I've had my dress since June and took it to a dress maker last night to see if she could do the alterations. Without going into too much detail (paranoid someone I know will find me on here and my dress wont be a surprise!) taking up my dress will not be an easy job. I always knew this but now she's terrified me by refusing to do it, said she doesn't think it can be done at all but if I find someone who will do it go with them. I did find someone who said she could (for at least £200) but now I'm scared that she thinks she's better than she is, that she'll start and mess it up. And my mum is now saying that it may come to giving up on this dress and getting a different one :'(
It was such a billy bargain, at 275 euros and perfect (except for the obvious) I spent last night crying and not able to properly tell OH why :(

I still feel like crying and not being able to talk about it is killing me! MOH is being fab despite being in a different country and is coming up with very helpful suggestions but I just feel so pessimistic about it all :(

I don't know if I have any useful suggestions for the dress but can I advise you to please speak to your OH about how you're feeling? You're stressed enough as it is and sometimes talking things through can take a load off your mind.
I'm assuming by your post and by how upset you are that there's quite a lot that needs done with your dress? Can you ask the person you've found to alter it if she can show you examples of her work, recommendations from other people etc before you give her your perfect dress? It might not be possible but just an idea. I really hope your dress works out for you....I've got my fingers crossed! :)

Hello Marm0set11 :) Welcome to the forum and congratulations!

Thanks for your reply Anibell. I've told him the basic problem I'm just trying to be careful what I say so I don't give too much away about my dress. I phoned the woman who originally said she could do it and have arranged for her to see it again. She was highly recommended by someone I work with, someone who I imagine to be quite fussy and particular! She actually remembered me and the dress and is still confident she can do it so I'm feeling a bit better about it, I think I just overwhelmed with things going wrong all at once with wedding plans and work!
I'll let you know after Saturday, keep those fingers crossed :)

That's good about the dress....sound like she knows what to do. And it's normal to get a bit overwhelmed especially with work, family, life in general etc etc not to mention a wedding on top of that! :) We're trying to sell my fiance's flat too so we can finally move in with each other before the wedding.....anybody want a 1 bedroom, ground floor flat in a nice area of Edinburgh??? Anyone?? No?? Oh well, worth a try lol :rotfl:

And my fingers are still crossed!! :)

Hi Ellie_B, we're wedding day twins!

Dress update_went to see the seamstress this morning at 9am and she wasn't there! :s had thought she'd forgotten about me but her mum was taken in to hospital yesterday after a fall so need to reschedule :(

On the plus side OH has been trying so hard to make things better we now have our transport sorted..........a 1971 VW camper van called Bertie! :D I knew I loved him for a reason hehe

I hope you get the flat sold soon, I know how stressful it is moving house, we bought and moved into our home in June. It's worth the wait!

That's a shame about the seamstress - hope her mother is okay. But still have my fingers crossed :) That's great about your transport....I love camper vans!
Went shopping with my mum yesterday to look at potential 'mother of the bride' outfit and I got really excited at the thought that we're shopping for MY wedding and not someone else's! She didn't get anything but at least she knows what she doesn't want. Some of the outfits were fuddy-duddy and old fashioned and my mum is the opposite of that :rotfl: Plus some things were SO expensive!
    I'm getting more excited!!!!! :D

    Hello everyone,

I've finally done something! Hurrah! :j

We've sorted & put down a deposit for my OH's suit, & we are planning on just hiring jackets, ties & handkerchiefs for the best men, ushers & both fathers & asking them to wear their own suit. We may have to rethink this though as it turns out although everyone owns a suit, some have black, some pinstripe & some navy!

What do you think, will this look too mismashed?? My OH, both fathers & 1 best man will be wearing black...the other best man in navy, & the ushers will be in black/pinstripe.

I've just asked my bridesmaids for their sizes & if they'd like a matching bolero as Debenhams have a 20% off sale at the moment, so would like to take advantage of that & get their dresses/jackets sorted. Hope they get back to me soon!
