Beautiful ring Pern! Sounds like it may well be worth a trip to Brum then, hmm. Possibly stupid question - is the jewellery quarter easy to find?

Honeymoon - Vegas and West Coast USA with a chunk of time in San Francisco :D We started planning dates and pricing everything up this weekend. I was more excited than a small child!

Thank you! We used a sat nav & put in this address:-

    91 Vyse Street
    B18 6JZ

But it is fairly well signposted once you get into the main bit of Birmingham.

Oh wow that sounds fantastic! I can see why you're so excited :) Can't wait to get round to looking at ours more!
Gorgeous rings Pern! I love the diamonds you have in yours, it'll be very sparkly!

The OH and I are getting our rings from the Jewellery Quarter; his friend at work used to work there and knows a few contacts so we've got the brochure and we're just taking bits we like from each.

Just a word of advice from my mum; apparently the engraving on the outside will rub off eventually, she had something engraved on her ring and it rubbed off after 10 years.

Thanks! Ah excellent, I have a friend who went to uni there a few years back that recommended looking around there but she didn't have any shops in particular to recommend. Hope you create your perfect rings :)

Thanks for the tip, I hadn't even thought of it rubbing off! Is that the case with palladium too? As it is stronger than white gold.

Pern - lovely rings! They are gorgeous.
Rahven - how exciting, we are also going to the USA and went to the travel agents yesterday! Very exciting!

Thanks for the advice on the invites. The church is around 10 minutes away from where everyone lives but I will include details about the pub at the end of the road (after checking he opens on a Sat pm!). I would think people will come to the ceremony then go home as it isn't that far. Any ideas on how to word it without sounding like come to our ceremony then clear off and amuse yourself?!!!

Chose my wedding ring yesterday - just OH to choose his now. Getting busy here with going back to work on Monday and starting new job x

    Thank you!

Maybe just be very honest & say you'd love to be able for them to come to the whole day but unfortunately you just can't afford to have everyone there? I guess it depends how open you want to be about that! I should think most people would understand though.

Ooh what's your ring like? Congrats on the new job!

He wants one in a style called Mokume Gane (it looks like wood grain) but we could only find an engraved imitation pattern locally. Not even thought about Birmingham and it's way closer than Canterbury!
I keep quizzing OH about honeymoon - we've discussed going on a cruise round the Med for a week, and also mentioned going somewhere before the cruise for a couple of days, but he keeps saying to ask him when he's less tired!

Oooh Becca I'd love to go to Universal Studios!

I just googled that & it is so unique! I haven't seen any rings like that before, might be worth seeing if any of the jewellers in Birmingham could make it for you but I didn't see any on display like that already if that's any help.

Hello! i have been so busy the last couple of months i havent had time to get on and read any of the forums! just caught up with this one though and sounds like everyones doing really well with planning, lots of lovely dresses! I think im doing ok, this is how far i've got:
*Venues booked - im getting married in a old building thats now run as a small musium but also does weddings and then having my reception at a nearby old hotel, im a bit into my history!
*Got my car booked - its a 1916 ford in original condition, wanted the oldest car i could find and i think i got it!
*Dress arranged - im having it made by a lady that made my sisters so know it will be lovely as shes very good.
*Got appointment to give notice in october
*Photographer is booked - actually price includes 2 and lots of other things
*Meeting with chef in October to discuss what food we would like

Going to look at rings this saturday and begining to look into suits and hopefully start on invites soon to, also going to try vistaprint. Can anyone think of anything else i should be doing now?

Also how many people are having chair covers? my venue has red chairs with gold frames which will clash with my theme (purple and silver) so im not sure what to do about it as they can be expensive i think. Any ideas welcome!!

Personally I think I'd try & get covers/hire other chairs as those colours would clash as you said...but definitely shop around & make sure you get the best deal!

We ended up buying chair covers and sashes as I think it's a rip-off to hire them! Bought 115 covers for £100 and got sashes separately. Going to dry clean them and sell afterwards - one of the girls at work is getting married next year and she's interested in buying them off me :)

Thanks for the info about the rings Pern :T - means we've hopefully made the right choice travelling all the way down to Canterbury! Bit of a holiday anyway and the B&B owners are nice enough to let you park at their place after you've checked out so don't need to pay for parking either :p

That sounds really cheap to buy! Where did you get them from if you don't mind me asking? Sounds like we're all better off buying & reselling rather than hiring for that price! I swear they are generally around £2 a chair to hire.

Hope you find what you're looking for in Canterbury, & enjoy a nice weekend away :)

  • Hi All,

Everyone seems to be making good progress.

I am just sorting out my invites. My OH and I are wanting to ask for money for our Honeymoon & add a small gift list for people who don't like to give money. We want to put it into a poem but I am no good at that type of thing!

Is there anyone who is using poems in their invites which can help us?

    Many thanks

They were from Ebay a few months ago. A friend (who's getting married today! :D) said she'd rented hers from a woman through Ebay so I took a look on there and just by chance I saw that there were some for sale in cream damask style (I'd seen the same for sale at £7.50 a cover!). It seems that people buy them and then relist afterwards on Ebay. There are loads of sellers doing cover and sash hire starting from 99p a chair as well.
I then got 100 white sashes from China which are perfect - had a practise last week and it looks really good.

Hi Jethro - we're going to do something similar but I don't really know what to put either. If you google it you can find loads of examples of what people have put but it seems to be a bit of a touchy subject with some people.

MILTB called me last night to say she's been speaking to a few people we've invited who said they've been invited to a Royal Wedding next year :rotfl:They've all had their 'Save the Dates' and I'm obsessed with presentation/creativity so they all had to look perfect! The package comprised of 'Save the Date' magnets, a page on local hotels (with buttefly background), a little note about our wedding site (also with same background), and the accomodation info from the venue. Then I bought some gold coloured paperclips and attached everything together, then put a little butterfly cutout under each paperclip. I then folded and tied it all together with a bow and sent off with address labels printed with the butterfly background. Took me ages to do but I was really pleased with myself. Now got to get something similar to evening guests because the hotel needs booking before Christmas to ensure they get rooms.

  • Well today has been rubbish, got asked to cover at work and do a 8-11 shift, arrived home from work at 17.30!!! so no looking at rings today and its so hard to find a day to go do these things as i work a lot of weekends so bit gutted about that.

gemmzie - we are having a DJ in the evening, its my OH, mates, dad! he's only charging us £100 and OH insisted on getting it booked, i had wanted to look into maybe having a band but oh well, he just better be as good as OH says or there could be a bad start to the marriage! lol. we are however still waiting for him to get one of those test certificate things done so if he doesnt we'll see what happens.

pernicious & unbrafeles - thanks for the advice, i will be having a look on ebay as soon as i have more time and will report back what i find. Shame the type of chairs i like will prob be too expensive to justify spending the money on. I have a thing about chairs, nearly picked a venue just because i liked the chairs! glad we decided against it now though or our wedding would have ended up a lot more expensive than its going to be!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Gutted I didn't look into hiring chair covers from an external company now, but we did negotiate our venue down to 1.90 from 3.50!
First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/14 :D
