Nice work Kaz :) They look lovely!

Nothing much to report atm, apart from I made the H2B sit down and decide what kind of cake he would possibly like... Tiered, cup-caked, fruit, sponge... You get the drift (lol) I don't think he realised what the differences between a sponge and fruit cake actually were and how it'll affect portions and price. Still I put him straight, showed him a few designs, encouraged him to pick the ones he liked (or rather the bits of them he liked) and he then went a designed what he would like :)

And I'm happy to say it looks beautiful :) (Although we're still awaiting the a reply of what this masterpiece will cost...) It's not OTT, it's two tiers directly on top, with a top tier on the little stands (can't remember what they're called) and a flowery drape down to the bottom, and flowers on the top.

Anyways, touch wood it'll be in our price range otherwise back to the drawing board he'll go! Lol!

Hope everyone's well, and if you're a teacher, I hope you're new classes/classrooms are lovely (oooh and only 10 working days left! :j)
Planned our wedding, still planning lessons

Well done spoony, wish my H2B would take a bit more interest in these things, I draw up a couple of rough designs and get him to pick one! lol

Did you decide on sponge or fruit?
Tempted to do the bottom layer in fruit so we don't get left with a ton of cake to throw away! On M&S website it says that the 3 tier will feed 144 people and we've got @130 at the evening when we'll cut the cake! Can't decide! :rotfl:

  • Hi everyone,

Hope you're all doing ok and plans are coming along!

Been a very mixed couple of weeks here, was incredily relieved to find out I hadn't been made redundant at work and have actually ended up with a promotion in our new dept structure :j but then had the sad news last week that my Granddad had passed away :( we've got the funeral next week, not looking forward to that. He was 84 though so a good age, just a shame he wont be here for the wedding though, I'm the first of the granddaughters to get married.

Any, on to more happier things! Had a meeting with a florist on 1st July, just waiting for the quote to come through...bracing myself for that! Haven't a clue what it's going to come in at.

Just got myself an BARGAIN on the John Lewis website, have been keeping an eye out for a wishing tree (having that rather than a guest book, fits in well with our love bird theme) and found one in their sale section, £17.50 reduced from £45! It's a properly tall one too, 1.6m :T more left if anyone wants one too!

Ah Pern sounds like you have a lot on your plate! I could highly recommend our florist but not sure if it's too far?
We are going to Florida and hoping to book our flights next month to get a good deal. It depends where you want to go I guess.
Guess what?! I'm going to be in a bridal magazine in a feature about good and bad dress shops! Will keep you posted!

I went all the way to Letchworth after meeting a florist who seemed really nice at a wedding show, only to leave the initial consultation very disappointed with her...so recommend away! :D
When we have a bit of spare time we will go to the travel agents together I think & see what they can offer us, then find the same thing cheaper online ;)
Ooh how exciting! Which magazine is it?
What's the trouble with the dress & is she a plus size? Maybe it's nothing to do with you but she's just feeling really self conscious all of a sudden & would much rather attend as a guest, rather then be put in a dress of your choosing with a lot more eyes on her.

Edited to add the reason I ask if she's a plus size is because 1 of my sister's is & was really hesitant about being a bridesmaid because of it, took a few months of reassurance that she will get a say in the dress for her to say yes!
She hasn't chosen a dress, i told her she could have any dress she wanted, but just the same colour as the other bridesmaid dress.
No she is not a plus size, must be a size 8, so im twice the size of her! ;)

Oh well i am over it now. It saves on the hair/make-up and trials and gift. So will save me some cash :D

    Danielle

I have no idea what her problem is then! Ah well, I am glad you are feeling positive now though & you're right, saves you a lot of money!
    Hi guys,

Thanks for all your recent support, I've stopped feeling sorry for myself now, well at least until the next rant! :rotfl:

Looking at the material situation differently, means I can have a look at colours again and see if I still want the same, although this time I'm gonna buy the waistcoat material first as the shop has loads of the type of material I need for the dresses in tons of colours. :D

Can't do much about my dress except wait and see! If it still doesn't fit early next year then I may have to search for another!

Well done for thinking positively over the bridesmaid problem Danielle, I cheated and pointed out the dress I'm making to them with "if you're a bridesmaid, you'll be wearing this dress in a different colour!" :)

Hope you find a florist pern. Luckily, for me, it was one of the things I didn't have to look for.

Still haven't spoken to my caterer friend, but been looking at bringing food price down and been doing quite well although the day before the wedding could be too busy if I end up doing the food as well!

Started on the invites, finished a couple and mighty pleased with myself, just have to work out how to upload pictures on here.

Any of you on ukbrides? Stored pics on there!

You can enter a fab competition when you register (for free) and you don't have to join as a power user if you don't want to, there are lists of suppliers from dresses & cakes to halls & photographers & even hen & stag night suppliers.

If you do join or are already on there, let me know and add me as a friend (Kaz), there is also a forum for June2012's
Glad things are going well :) I'm on ukbrides but don't use it too often to be honest, the sheer amount of "Become a power user" emails I get annoy me so much I rarely go on it :o & I find it easier to just google suppliers!

Sounds great Spoony - We need to start thinking what kind of cake we'd like, part of me wants a traditional tiered cake because how often do you get to have a massive cake like that?! :D But then part of me would like cupcakes because baking is actually a hobby of mine, & I love decorating cupcakes! So it's a good reflection of me (& OH because he likes to eat them :p)

    Hmm decisions decisions.

Congratulations on the promotion, & I am really sorry to hear about your Granddad, as you say, at least he had a good long life.

What kind of flowers are you after?
