    I am not sure
  • Have to share the perfect Tesco experience today. It was like in a TV commercial.

Went for Xbox games, found Splinter Cell priced 37.97, so picked it up with some bits from the reduced shelf. It scanned, as expected, at 39.96. Bingo.

Went to CS desk, the young lady calls another employee, around 25, who goes off with the game to check the shelf label.

He is back a minute later, beaming all over his face.

Him: "I have fantastic news for you!"
Me: "Oh, I like fantastic news, so what is it?"
Him: "You have been overcharged. According to our policy in case of an overcharge, I will now fully refund your money and you may keep the game for free!"
Me: (playing clueless) "I keep the game AND the money? Are you sure?"
Him: "Absolutely, Sir. As I said, our policy on overcharging is we refund your money and you keep the product."
Me: "Well, I'm certainly not going to argue about that! Thanks ever so much - that really makes my day."

He then gives me £40 cash, I have 4p change, and he didn't even sign the receipt.

    Still stunned by that reaction.
No professional actor in a TV ad could have done better than this employee. And he was totally genuine.
  • You should have asked him where his display for the Xboxes was!!!
We took on Mr T and we won:D

Shame it had to end, will have to get free stuff from comps now

I have just been accused of fraud and banned from a store, they claim to have cctv footage of this (placing mispriced SELs which is a complete lie) which they refused to show me as obviously they didnt have it they also threatened to call the police in an attempt to make sure i left the store, but backed down when i insisted that they did due to the nature of the allegations i think i have managed to record some of the accustations being made. The store manager at one point said to me "were you in ###### store yesterday" when i replied "no" (which i wasnt) he then replied "oh really of course you werent"

i was on my lunch break so had to eventually leave the store and accept a refund and return the product, head office even refused to RNR due to the allegations made against me

will no doubt give a more long winded version of events later but just wondered if anyone had any idea on my next step?

If anyone has you on CCTV you can ask to review the video under the data protection act and they must comply. First ask why is the CCTV there, when they say to catch to shoplifters then they have admitted it is for identifying individuals and therefore its covered by the data protection act.

Does anyone have a geographical number for Dundee instead of the 0800 one?

  • GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN!
Oh how I miss those little Xbox and Pro Evolution Soccer display boxes...with the 19.96 saving so prominently displayed to entice us all to buy....

Oh and the bargain price of £37.97 for the game alone.... sadly gone but not forgotten...

I knew I would miss them so fortunately I took some pictures... I bet some of the people in HO would also like reminding too....

So the Xbox premium alone is £259.97 - What a looker!

and the Pro Evo game cost this much (and still does in some cases at the point of sale):-

    Pro Evo Game and SEL

Stuck on the side the of the hexagon promotional display shelf was this little label (pretty isn't it):-

The Little Pro Evo SEL on the Hex. Display

And last but not least, perfect in every way especially the crucial words "Save £19.96" is the promotion box itself, Sweet! :-

The very finest "Cube" in the shop

So I say do the maths... realise the overcharge, make the complaint... see Tesco do nothing until they fight us in court!

I had all them things and Tesco refused to honour my overcharge, couldnt really put a strong enough argument across for £2 though so took a full refund

This is correct as far as I am aware too - CCTV cameras can be placed anywhere, with the general assumption made that they are only there for the prevention of crime only.

(This is why you are not pestered as you walk down the street for your permission to be caught on the town's CCTV system!)

That is also why it is a breach of your human rights for CCTV footage to be shown, starring you, for any other purpose (this also prevents store staff sending any films showing you tripping over/dancing/etc to "You've Been Framed" - without your permission.

Therefore, any footage of you serial R&R'ing, I would conclude, is not admissable as evidence as it is a grey area as to whether the "hobby" of R&R'ing is illegal in the first place. Therefore, in my view, CCTV footage is being used for a purpose that is not to deter crime.

Obviously a court would need to set a precedent and rule that R&R'ing is illegal for CCTV footage to be used in this way against you.

  • Scenario:
Saw misprice on SEL. (meat per Kg error). I felt 'familiar eyes' watching me as I put the stuff in my trolley by the way, but thought nothing of it. Promptly paid and went to CS. Went back to the aisle with CS guy....

... the label had been corrected - within the space of a few minutes!

Got the Duty Manager to go and enquire, but not surprisingly couldn't come up with anyone who would own up to changing the SEL.

Thought about keeping the meat and complaining to HO. Instead, returned it there and then, but I might complain anyway and see what comes of it.

My only option in future would seem to be to photograph each and every misprice as I find it. Does anyone else do that as standard? Any experience or suggestions on this?

[btw - am borrowing a good friend's id to post this so as to otherwise preserve my true online identity]

[Edit: Actually, I've just seen the posts about CCTV - and I did think about asking them to review that - but only some time later - d'oh!]
