i'd be careful eating any food that has started to grow mouldHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I suppose you could also use it for baking/cooking like with other food stuffs close to or past their best.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

No, I would discard it, some very dangerous toxins can be produced by moulds . Not worth the risk.0

Oh for goodness sake get a grip. It was out of date in November, has mould on it, and you are asking whether you should eat it?January GC: £64.81/£80.00
February GC: £24.60£80.000 -
The date was best before not use by and I've eaten food well past its best before date with no problems.0

But surely for the sake of peace of mind it would be better to go and buy another one and put your mind at rest for the sake of £3?January GC: £64.81/£80.00
February GC: £24.60£80.000 -
NO - definitely not.
But then I won't buy margarine anyway. Its gotta be butter (having read up about margarine before now - wrong type of fats).
Being a more "unnatural" type of product as well - would make me even more inclined to bin it when mouldy.
Tisnt worth it for the sake of a few pence..0 -

However, on opening it today OH noticed some mould in the corner of the tub, scooped that bit out and threw it. He thinks it's ok to eat but I'm not sure. I did a search here on MSE but can't find anything about mouldy margarine. It doesn't appear to have gone through the marg, just a bit on top in the corner of tub. Would you eat it? It doesn't smell funny and I did have a bit on a piece of bread earlier and it tasted fine.
No way, if it had mould on it I would not touch it.As for tasting okay my daughter once turned my fridge down when a toddler and then I was in hospital with her for over a week, huband was away at the time. When we all came home and I noticed the fridge temperature and I threw everything out but for some reason not the margarine. I later did bacon sandwiches that luckily only three adults had, margarine tasted fine but with in no time at all each of the adults were really ill for the whole day.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
Personally I would have put it straight in the bin, I am really funny about best before dates etc. Just yesterday found 3 mullerlite yoghurts in the fridge with the best before date 24th December, they went in the bin, didn't even open them to see what they looked like. I know some would have eaten them, but that's just me. Some will eat out of the date things, some won't.0
