Look at it, smell it and make a decision. I never really go by dates, we have been drinking milk that expired on Thursday, but is still ok today.
It has taken me years to convert my OH, but he has finally come round to my way of thinking.
If you had bought the chicken from the Butcher, there would be no date!I want to be credit card and loan free by Christmas 20100 -
Depends how it has been stored.
If it was in a warm car for an hour's journey from the supermarket last Saturday and kept in a larder (not fridge) since then, then not a good idea. But then it wouldn't have been a good idea on Thursday either.0 -
eyes and nose will tell all - I would eat it as long as it looked and smelt fine. Enjoy!3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread, to keep ideas together.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

Surely if eyes and nose tell all, no one would succumb to food poisoning?
I may be wrong here, but I believe that food spoilage bacteria (that make the food decay and go rotten) change the flavour and look of the food, but food poisoning bacteria are mostly tasteless and odourless. If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0 -
Hanging my head in shame, I have just pulled out of the freezer a whole salmon. It has been in there 15 months. I don't think we should risk it, but do you think it would be OK for the dog?
PS I don't blame you for tut-tutting at my poor housekeeping, but 15 months ago was a different life and now I jolly well save string.:eek:0 -
No, it'll be fine. Stuff stays in my freezer for much longer than this and we're all still alive! It's been at -18 degrees, it'll be absolutly fine.0

It'll be fine as long as it was fast frozen at the start. Does it smell ok? If so, cook it.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0
