  • You would see and of the kinds of bugs that can get in flour, but it doesn't matter what age it is for them.

It's probably fine. I've been using a bread mix from approved foods that was out of date in july and it's been fine. You might want to add 1/4 packet of yeast extra if you think it might not rise enough.
Living cheap in central London :rotfl:
  • Yup it should be fine just check for wrigglies and go for it :)

Pour the mixes into a bowl, have a good rummage through to check for bugs and then use it.

Personally I'd just use without the checks.

Well my bread machine has just beeped and i think 'it may not rise as well' was an understatement, i seem to have created a new kind of tasty flatbread:) oh well, was worth a try, think i'll try again, just in case my water was too cold and killed what little yeast was remaining :)
  • no harm to stick some extra yeast in :)

thats all very well, but if you have a partner like mine who refuses to eat things within 1 day BEFORE the eat by date or anything that has a reduced sticker on it (regardless of the sellby or eat by date), or refuses to eat anything that has been in the freezer for more than a month (no matter what it is), then any knowledge about the deceptiveness of eat by dates is useless

    yours depressed

he throws them out, we have had many rows about it.

yesterday i cooked a lovely fish pie with cream past its eat by date (perfectly fine), cheese with a bit of mould cut off it (perfectly fine), salmon which had been in the freezer for over 6 months

so now, because a fish pie is a rich dish which needs baking in a big dish, i had some for tea last night, some for lunch today and now cant face anymore, he wont eat anything like that so the rest has to go in the bin
