Interesting link :T I'll add this to the Sell by Dates thread so that it'll be seen by lots of othershe throws them out, we have had many rows about it.
yesterday i cooked a lovely fish pie with cream past its eat by date (perfectly fine), cheese with a bit of mould cut off it (perfectly fine), salmon which had been in the freezer for over 6 months
so now, because a fish pie is a rich dish which needs baking in a big dish, i had some for tea last night, some for lunch today and now cant face anymore, he wont eat anything like that so the rest has to go in the bin
I'd freeze it in individual portions, to make "free" luches for me:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Thanks Jackieglasgow i was a bit scared as i've heard that flour can have bugs in it when it gets past is best before date:)
They can, but not necessarilyI imagine it'll be fine, but do use your own senses
As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread on food safety.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

I read somewhere that if you freeze the flour it kills off any kind of nasty in there so I do that now with all of my bread flour if I am not going to be using it for a while.
It doesn't feeze solid so I take it out and leave for half an hour or so before I use it.
Just make sure you put it into plastic freezer bags or the normal packaging will go damp.0 -
I defrosted a pack of sausages on Wednesday. DIdn't then use them until Thursday and left two over which I was planning to use on Friday night but didn't. Do you think I'm OK to have them this morning for breakfast? They have been refrigerated.0

Look at them ...Smell them ....use your common sense, and make sure to cook them through.0
-
If they smell ok, yes. I've done it before.0

If they smell ok then cook them well and enjoy!Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0

Thanks all. They smell fine and I tend not to worry too much about things like this but thought I'd get some opinions!0

How close were they to expiry date when you froze them? I'm always freezing sausages from the Whoopsie section that have an Eat Before date of that day. If your sausages are like that then I'd be more cautious about leaving them for four days after defrosting before you used them. If however they had four or five days left on the Eat Before date when you froze them, they will be fine.Val.0

As you've had some opinions I'll add your thread to the Quick Questions on food safety / sell by / use by dates thread as your question may help others.
