I have been gifted some cans of lager - which might go down well in the summer. Best before (or use by date) is February 2011 - may be they'll last a bit longer than that eh?0

At this time of year (ie Autumn & Winter) when outdoor temperatures are now, it's often worth buying one of those big plastic storages boxes with lids to keep outdoors for "fridge overflow" items, especially when Christmas is approaching. These are ideal for storing surplus fruit and vegetables which need to be kept cool. If overnight frost is a problem, line the inside of the box with bubble wrap or newspaper.0

thanks for the suggestions everyone.. well we are still alive!
i bunged them in the oven for about 2 hours and then put them on low for the rest of day in the slow cooker..0 -
The main reason there are warnings against ensuring things are properly defrosted is because if part is defrosted and part is still frozen, once cooked the defrosted bit could be red hot, but the other bit could still be luke warm and open you up to bacteria. The important bit is to ensure all parts are cooked right through.

Hi,
Hope someone can reassure me, made some stock last night, took it off the heat at 1am was going to leave it out to cool and put it in fridge 1st thing in morning but I forgot till 2pm - I presume it's ok as it will ofcourse be cooked again before it's eaten but it would be nice to hear it from someone else0 -
Hi all,
Can I use meat from the freezer to make a meal then freeze the meal?
I'm the daughter of an intense worrier and my mum would throw things out that would make OSers cringe and I've inherited a little bit of her anxiety over meat but if you lot do it then it's fine, I trust you :rotfl:Comper, Blogger & OS-erCompetition prizes: £6/£20150 -
if the meat was raw & then you defrosted & cooked it you can freeze again. If its cooked, frozen, defrosted and used you can't. HthDF as at 30/12/16

Also, will be a unopened jar or tangine sauce best before jan 2010 still be ok? I have just opened it and it smells ok, although I have never tried/smelt tangine before so not sure what it's supposed to smell like!0

Thank you for the quick reply, the meat is raw. Glad I can use up what I've got, got a freezer full of ingredients and must get round to making some meals.....:pComper, Blogger & OS-erCompetition prizes: £6/£20150

I'm forever defrosting raw meat (esp mince) and then batch cooking and freezing and have never had a bad tummy (apart from when on hols!) Today I did that with lamb mince and made spicy lamb meatballs. Yum. Enjoy your dinners:jSince starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets.
