Thanks everyone, will continue to do as I always have then! I have had food poisoning before and tend to be cautious so thought it best to ask . . . make sure I wasn't the only one
Do have a look though next time you get a gammon joint from the supermarket - this one was from Mr. A - wonder now if they all say this??0 -
Ignore it
I`ve been reheating it for years and we`re all fine.
I looked at the do not freeze instructions on the cream last night before i threw it in the freezer too
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
It should be fine, i`ve found that it differs in smell from different places too.
Usually it tastes a bit bland when it smells like this, would it happen to be the lower fat type?
The lower fat type is less tasty IMHO as a lot of the flavour comes from the fat.

Hello all, I thought I would ask here since you all seem so knowledgable
I bought 1 lb of mince on Friday from a different butcher to usual, and I have just started cooking it now ready for a batch cook, but there is a slightly different smell to normal. It is not offencive, I would describe it as slighlty vinegary, does this mean it is on the turn and I should chuck it does any body know? I did wonder if it is because it is from a different butchers, but surely mince should smell of mince regardless of where it is from shouldnt it?
So should I cook it and feed it to the family or bin it, any ideas?
Thanks
I binned mince recently as I wasn't sure
I'll add this to the food safety thread later on
Thanks
ZipA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

If you bought it on Friday and it's been in the fridge since then I doubt very much that it's not still fresh. Meat that's on the turn will smell nasty0

Just checked the one in my freezer, and yes says it too! I'm still going to do what i always do tho, i might even cook it and freeze it again AND then reheat:eek::rotfl:All comments and advice given is my own opinion and does not represent the views or advice of any debt advice organisation.

Thank you all
I did decide to carry on with it, I wondered if what Sunnyday said was right, as when I went to drain that fat off, there was none to drain, so I wonder if it was lean mince with a slightly different smell. As BitterAndTwisted said, it was only 3 days old, and had been fridged the whole time, so age wise it should be ok, but with a different butchers I wasn't quite sure as I am not familliar with them. Anyway, I cooked it for ages and ages just in case, and did a taste test and it tasted fine, so I have risked it. If we are all ill tomorrow then I shall blame the mince
The rest of the portions from the bulk cook are in the fridge, if we are all well in the morning then I shall freeze them, if not, they will be binned.
Thanks for your replies0 -
I too have reheated it! just make sure it is 'as they say on the packaging' PIPING HOT!
