brownie update - warning was given in case anyone was pregnant/felt they wouldn't want to take a chance.
They were delivered at 1030am and the box was not only empty, but washed and requesting a refill by 3pm! (We're talking a SLAB of brownie here - at least 12 inches by 8!) And no reports of upset tummies - hurrah."When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes" - Erasmus0 -
Hi. Will it be safe to use a pack of beef mince that went out of date yesterday? Its been kept in the fridge.
Thanks.0 -

Great, thanks very much!0

I used to be really funny about things like this until my mum said to me:
"do you think it goes bad the second the clock strokes midnight? If it smells ok and looks ok then it is ok!"
Now I pay absolutely no attention to "use by" dates, I just trust my own instincts!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
I go mad at my OH about this... I keep telling her that we have a use-by indicator in the middle of our faces that has been working OK for the past several thousand years!
I made a cauliflower cheese for tea tonight and the cauli had a use by date on 16th Jan - it looked fine and smelled fine!0 -
One day is not too bad I'm not too sure I would eat the above poster dish though.0

There are loads of bacteria that you can't smell, or see with the naked eye. Do you think people never got food poisoning before we had use by dates? Of course they did!
Having said that I'd eat mince that was only a day out of date, although first I would check it out by giving some to the cat. If she turns her nose up, I know it is not fit to eat.0 -
Use By, Best Before, etc. dates always err on the side of caution. A product is not going to suddenly grow a fur coat on the stroke of midnight on some fairly arbitrary date on the label. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

Meat if bought chilled and kept chilled should be OK to eat about a week after the use-by date, I reckon. How long to you think proper butchers hang their meat for? Weeks0
