Ive had trout in good restaurants which tasted muddy! the fish isnt necessarily off! I too, have had Basa fillets from Aldi and yes, they are lovely - taste a bit like sea bass usually. I have a pack of them in the freezer right now but bearing in mind what you have told us - might do a strong tasting sauce with them or even fish curry!0

Better to plan ahead if possible and defrost meats/fish in a fridge rather than at room temperature. If you feel my comments are helpful then I'd love it if you 'Thanked' me!0

Thanks for the advice, didn't know the trick with honey. It was just a bit alarming as it tasted different from my last basa fillet. I think as you say it didn't smell so it would have been ok - not the nicest of tastes though!!! I am ok so far :-)0

We had basa fillets from Aldi before and yes very earthy tasting.
We ate the fillets and weren't ill at all, just didn't like the taste.
Decided not to buy them from there again as Youngs basa (though more expensive) never seem to taste earthy at all.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Snap! I bought basa fillets from Aldi earlier this year and they tasted a bit muddy, almost if they had an "off taste". I decided I wouldn't bother with them again.
BTW I am now trying pollock fillets from Lidl, they taste fine.Hoping this year is better than the last.0 -
Hi guys,
I have mozzarela ball (the ball Tesco&Mr S sell in plastic bag so it is covered in liquid) in the fridge, which has due date today but I won't be able to eat it today...
I was wondering whether I could still eat it tomorrow (given it is dairy product) or whether I could freeze it at least?0 -

You should be fine to use it tomorrow.
However, if you think you might be using it any later than that - then yes, freeze it, and then make sure that you use it on the day that you eventually defrost it.

I've been making my own yogurt for about 5 years with an Easiyo, using UHT full fat milk. It usually keeps for at least 10 days, and I have never had any problem.
I've just looked at my last batch after 6 days and it has bubbles in it and when I tasted it, it was fizzy. I made this batch with a fresh starter from a pot of natural tesco yogurt.
Does anyone know if it's still useable as a starter, or useable in any way, as I hate throwing things out.
I've hunted through pages before posting this, but haven't found anything similar.0 -
Chuck it, it will start but all yoghurt made from it will also be fizzy.
Or add some to some flour and you will get a nice sourdough starter quite quickly if you bake your own bread. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
