I don't believe cheese goes off, years ago everyone scraped the mould off their cheese.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
No, it doesn't count just scrape the mould off. Some cheeses are better after the use by date anyway especially brie. That one I usually eat about a month after the use by date. Stilton just gets stronger as time goes by. I've had it a year after the use by date. Admittedly it was very strong.
Just had a look at that chart. I wouldn't strictly go by it. I eat meat after it's use by date. Not minced meat or sausages just steaks or similar. Why do they hang it for 21 days and put a bigger price tag on it? Because it tastes nicer. However, chicken and fish you need to be really careful with. What's with the advice on eggs. British hens have been vaccinated against salmonella. It is very rare. I'd only make sure I thoroughly cooked an out of date egg. i.e not sunny side up.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

I have been trying to clear my cupboards down and am shocked at the foods in my freezer. I have found two tescos finest rump steaks that went into the freezer in December (says if freezing use within one month on the back) a bag of frozen mince that was frozen in the first place that went out of date in Oct 2010, chicken breasts that probably went in from fresh about 3 months ago - should I bin it as I haven't used it in one month or would it still be OK to use?Just keep swimming!0

Frozen food can't go off but the quality can deteriorate over time and if it's not wrapped well it can get freezer burn, which only affects the quality. Producers tend to err on the side of caution with their recommended freezing times, but most foods will be perfectly safe to eat no matter how long they've been in the freezer.
The usual rules apply: once defrosted, look at the meat, if it looks ok then smell it, if it smells normal then it will almost certainly be perfectly ok to eat. If it's any consolation I've kept meat in the freezer well past a year and it was absolutely fine.

If it reassures you at all, I was expecting you to say that you'd found things that were four or five years old. Don't worry about a few months in the slightest.0

Hi!
My husband made some homemade burgers and threw them in the freezer...the thing is now he is worried about whether to use them or throw them away as he said the mince was fresh but frozen on the day of shopping - defrosted - made into burgers - then refrozen.
ps, they have not been cooked...just seasoned and shaped then frozen.
We won't use them if we are not sure - anyone know if this is safe or not?
Thanks xWhy does my dog chase cars? Even if he caught one he hasn't passed his test!0
