Definately one for the sniff and taste test - if it looks, smells and tastes OK, there's a good chance it is. Stork also has a really long use by date normally so there's a good bit of margin built in to allow for people storing it at less than perfect conditions.

yes - it should be absolutely fine! If the date had been rubbed off you wouldn't even hesitate unless it smelt funny, would you?

    Hi,

I'm almost certain that vinegar can't go off, its a preservative in its self, isn't it? as in pickles.

I'm abit fussy about dates etc, complete wus I know, but I doubt I'd have even checked for a date.
  • I didn't even know vinegar could go off! I'd probably use it but I very rarely check dates on things!

I work for a company that distributes different vinegars, & I am sure they do not go off. Think of it like wine, the older the better lol xx

i never knew vinegar has a use by date!

if your not wanting to use it for food use, then use it for your windows and cleaning etc.
  • Hi quintwins, if it says Best before, I wouldn't worry. Cupboard items usually do say best before and that's because manufacturers/producers have to adhere to European Law. I tend to ignore these most of the time and may pay attention if it's five years past it's best before date ;)
  • Vinegar can sort of go off.

If old it can get cloudy, but still be useable. However, it can get cloudy and smell rotten and then it needs to be thrown. Fruit flies / vinegar flies (which are attracted to rotten fruit) are also attracted to vinegar so it you have something pickled which is homemade then always keep it covered.

If it smells fine then I would still use it.

Made a huge pot of bolognese sauce yesterday, forgot to put some of it in the fridge once cooled and left it on the worktop for about 4 or 5 more hours. The kitchen is fairly warm 21/22 degrees...will it be ok to eat? I put it in the fridge as soon as I realised it was still out.
Let's get ready to bumble! :rotfl:
