It is probably too late to buy the minimum holding of shares and be qualified to attend - but I have been to a few here in the UK - it is a good opportunity to put the chairman/managing director/finance director/marketing director..........on the spot.

In a way that the monthly reports filtering up from below never will.

"Cedric the pig", was a memorable occasion in the UK.
  • for those who cleverly snagged the NIBE unit with NHBC prior to the 2 year period on their home expiring ...we would suggest you look at the fact the system has no boiler interlock...which may breach the domestic heating and hot water guidance 2006 & 2008..
Section 8 of the guide ,heat pumps, clearly states water need to be taken to 60C or 65C if the heat pump is unable to do this temp then you must use another form of power (in the case of the NIBE an immersion element) and you must also then follow that compliance ....so that would default to section 4 (electrical heating & hotwater) which clearly says that you must have a boiler interlock.....
the NIBE heat pump can only take the water to a max of 56C ....and has no boiler interlock...

this is a really good link to calculate CO2 output... remember to only choose 1 person if you want to calc the entire home .
It also enables you to see what the CO2 output would be if you are in a different country say for example SWEDEN!

A Boiler Interlock is an arrangement of the heating system controls (Room thermostats, , programmable room thermostats, cylinder thermostats, programmers and time switches ) in such a way that ensures that the boiler does not fire when there is no demand for heat.

Guidance notes do not accept room thermostats as adequate boiler interlocks to comply...
the nibes circulation pump never stops running in heating mode

When I was actively involved in central heating, gas boilers still had two sizes of pilot light - you could strap the larger flame on to constant and produce a warm tank of hot water:D:eek:

Fancy wiring to avoid the boiler "cycling", every time the water in the boiler cooled down, was something that it was difficult to sell to home owners.
  • When we were actively involved in electrically driven exhaust air heat pumps people actually believed that it would be better to use grid electricity ,that is mainly created by gas driven turbines, rather than the gas connection in their home.

    Oh those were the days......:rotfl:

It must be 8 years ago now; I met a woman who was doing a "Grand Designs" type renovation on a nice old stone house, probably of Victorian vintage - ie not 18" thick walls, just posh for its time.

When I asked: ......but doesn't it have a gas supply? (I am a no gas pauper); the reply was that with a heat pump we would be able to tell British Gas where to go.

In the event they had to sign up to the joys of internally lining the walls and installing oversized aluminium radiators to achieve the internal temperatures commensurate with the potential value of the finished property.

Perhaps another one of those infinity paybacks given the falling price of wholesale gas?

Also of course, electricity generated by nuclear would be so cheap it wouldn't be worth metering!
  • Yep Unfortunately our current government has scuppered any chance of Nuclear.....which indeed would have seriously been an advantage....cue the anti nuclear types.....:) we love you all...
