ah yes Eco Build...had a ticket but thought best not to use it as biting my tongue is not one of my strengths...
Totally agree the ticking of boxes is extremely questionable and who makes the boxes to be ticked...who audits the BRE? Who audits the DECC...
One thing that may be good out of all this is...it is very clear to us ,the customer, that there are a small number of engineers/specialist that actually know their stuff and indeed there maybe an emerging market for such specialists who qualify to be in this group...
Aha now there is an idea...Bingo....
a bit like sorting the wheat from the chaff .....0 -
not something to gloat over as it involves individuals losing their jobs but needs to be reported on....Some UK based NIBE staff have been given redundancy notices...sales of heat pumps have declined not only for NIBE but across the UK..There is some speculation that this may be a beginning to what is a bail out of NIBE in the UK market to negate any damaging legal claims that may soon be landing on their doorstep.0

Yes I feel ASHP sales have declined too...
Not that they don't work, ours is brill, but from an RHI point of view. What is in effect a subsidy to assist with the big capital cost has as we know been delayed yet again...
Initially DECC/EST did not want to monitor ours as part of the new trials but just before the delay announcment they RHI they suddenly want to monitor us again, criteria changed???0 -

My understanding is that the COP (coefficient of performance put in X units of electricity and get out X * COP units of heat) is going to be "standardised" at 2.3 for both ground and air source heat pumps.
Perhaps this is less to do with the real technology of heat pumps but is inspired by:
A: Gas for delivery in 5 days is more expensive than gas for delivery in 5 years, probably because new techniques ("fracking" ?) suggest to the market that loads more can can be found.
B. The condensing gas boiler is "cheap" and reliable instant technology, understood by installers and customers, unlike heat pumps.
So a "standard" of 2.3 for the CoP once fed into the Standard Assessment Procedure (the one that thinks PC panels on a North slope manufacturer electricity as fast as those of a South slope ?) will rule out any subsidies for heat pumps where natural gas is available.
Perhaps I am just an old cynic?0 -
Totally agreed with both comments however ,,, this discussion was in regards to a NIBE 360 Exhaust Air Heat pump and unlike an Air source heat pump is not classed as renewable energy and will never be eligible for any incentives.
An Air source heat pump uses ambient outside air and extracts the latent heat from that condensing it to provide heat to the home (by air or air to water)whilst sending the remaining cold air out...NO Ambient air enters the building.
The Exhaust air heat pump draws in the outside ambient air into the home at a rate of 110m3 per hour!
The heat pump uses the heat you have heated in your home and once its achieves the temp you require and hot water it then does not shut off ...oh no.....the fan continues to run expelling any heat from you home direct to outside at 110m3 an hour (same as a 3 bed semi) to say the NIBE unit is a joke is an understatement...
In Sweden any property fitting an Exhaust air heat pump must halve its U ratings by LAW!and the Swedish U ratings are pretty good as standard...
Here in blighty you would be hard pressed to even find an air tight home even if the BC have deemed it to be...0 -

I love them !
[Note it is not a double posting there are two video clips]
Are these NIBE people a public company, where you can go to the AGM and make your point?0 -

Has NIBEs Exhaust air heat pumps concentrated too hard to meet building regulations ventilation codes and is this the downfall of its product by taking its eye off heating and hotwater and trying to be a silver bullet for the building trade by ticking boxes that just don't go hand in hand......allowing 110 m3 per hour of fresh outside air to enter a home whilst sucking up the homes heat is madness and when the heat pump is not operational it just chucks your homes heat out the exhaust and continues to bring in outside air...how stupid can it be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0
