    Champix - Day 1

    Hi All

Started Champix today - so still smoking but joining you all in the smoke free zone very, very soon :D

Tried 3 weeks ago with patches... all going well until I developed a severe allergic reaction to them! So, did 12 days and then didn't feel up to 'cold turkey' so went back on them. Anyway, here I go again... and determined to succeed.

I've been reading your posts for a few weeks and decided to join you all today for support :T It looks like a lot of you are doing really well :T

Will keep on reading the posts and let you all know how I'm doing x
  • Hi everyone glad to see lots of new quiters :T

Wow the last few days have been really tough (TOTM & lots of work stress). So I have a question so for ppl who have quit a bit longer than me - how do you now cope with stress? I'm really struggling with this at the moment as (not able to have a glass of wine due to meds) once I get stressed - which is daily atm - I can't get rid of it & so I have been eating lots of junk food, and inevitably the weight is galloping on :(. I really need a better way, so any advice would be gratefully received x

Other than the glass or two of Red that I'm fond of, I find the gym to be a good method of stress relief and after 20 minutes on the cross trainer, 16 minutes on the floating wave machine, 10 minutes on the bike and the rest of my programme, my brain and body are just too tired for stress:rotfl:Seriously though, I have found it to be an excellent method of stress relief and try to go 3 times a week when possible;)

  • Thanks red I think that's what I'm going to do after work today - gym kit in the car already, then planning on going out for a few drinks with oh this evening (haven't told him yet!) Stress is a strange thing though makes you feel like you don't have any time for anything other than what is stressing you out!

Sometimes after a crazy day at the office I actually feel sorry for the cross trainer in particular due to the speed I go on it, but honestly do feel better when I'm finished. I hope it works for you and enjoy the drinks with your OH.

  • good morning everyone

great to see many faces old and new :D
Its amazing how time flies on ( maybe not for those just on the journey)
, it can feel a bit like clock watching but every moment fag free counts ,to reach the end of the road to victory so stick with it
..IT DOES get easier I promise you ..dont give in to any temptations and if you are aware of any significant triggers try and change your routines slightly to make things a it easier for you ..get out in the fine air if you are able and grab lung fulls of the free fresh stuff:)

hi determined glad to see you have grabbed your gym kit , i have started spining classes ( never thought it was my scene ) but I love it , and i think any exercise is a great stress reliever ,its true what they say about those endorphins being released , even after the "tuffest" of days when you really dont feel like going having a thrash about onone of those machines and you feel energised . I try for 3x exercise a week wether it be gym or spinning i like the tred mill and cross trainer dont know what the wave machine is bottleofred but like the sound of that too:)

whatever your plans have a super weekend everyone

    Hi Jammy Dodger,

I'm definitely not fit enough for a spinning class, but the wave machine is a machine you stand on and lift one knee at a time, pushing away from you. It's quite strange as level 1 has the most resistance and I can just about do 40 steps per minute, but level 10 has very little resistance and I do 130 steps per minute, although there are people who I've no doubt do way more than me. My programme has me on it for 16 minutes at varying resistances and it particularly work the top of the legs etc.

Things must be looking up, I managed a whole day without tears or tantrums. :T I guess if I were three years old that would be deserving of a star or something.

I dug out my old pedometer today, after I had been on a long walk around the library and shops (doh). So far I am up to 5,127 steps and won't be walking much further than my bed tonight; not too bad considering I missed out the best few hours of the day when I was actually walking around lots. I will see if I can make 10,000 tomorrow.

Less than 12 hours to go and it will be a three whole weeks abstaining for me and over 300 fags not smoked. I was wondering today how many thousands of fags I have actually smoked in my lifetime - I expect it's in excess of 150,000. Scary biscuits! Imagine that? 150,000 fag butts in an ashtray? Oh my god!!!

A warm welcome to you, janie-h :hello:, though forgive me if I've already done so back awhile, but this year this thread has been soooo fast moving that it's a job to keep up with everyone. I'm sure that so many people may have thrown in the towel and gone back to their old habits due to all the allergic reactions I've heard on here over the last 3 years. Such a shame the makers hadn't got it right first! Still, not too many are complaining now so perhaps they have. Champix is definitely rated highly with those seeking to quit so all being well you should get on with those alright. Keep with us and let us know how you're doing and the very best of luck to you on finally being able to rid yourself of the evils of smoking.

Good morning bootcampers! :j:j:j Hi DNM, Red and JD, it's enough to make you think you're on the wrong thread here. I can't drink alcohol due to meds either DNM, but definitely go for exercise every time to combat stress ...that and an hour in an intimate place!;) Try both today (after that few drinks with oh this evening) and I'll bet you get a huge stress booster!!! Give the junk food the flick and have water, apples, oranges, celery sticks all at the ready for a quick nibble ...or talking of the latter - back to the bedroom :kisses2: - you can't eat and do 'that' at the same time....well, unless it's yoghurt...cream, strawberries and so forth. ;) One thing to think about treating yourself to is an relaxation CD, one where there's someone talking at the same time. IF you have an iPhone or phone with apps then have a look through them, there's a very good one by Andrew Johnson that you can't go wrong with, another of his for weight loss too! Just tap his name in the search bar.

Like JD I don't know what the wave machine is either Red, though from what you've described I think I can imagine it, but it obviously does you good, the cross trainer too, so that's all that matters - maybe he's from London or somewhere posher than Scotland or Somerset JD!! Now spinning really does appeal and who knows!

For anyone not having access to gyms good old brisk walking is a great stress reliever though, so is working out at home with an exercise DVD and any sort of exercise is better than none! So, to all those feeling a little stressed or narky due to stopping the fags go for exercise and you'll soon get a whole new feeling on the quitting front! If you find exercise boring then get a small iPod and the time'll just fly by with your favourite music.

For all you people who have recently stopped smoking, take a look at all the exercise ideas we've all spoken of and put at least one to practice as it really does help enormously. Also keep up the water and eating fruit - both great allies - honestly!!

Where's our Hattie these days??!!! Come and talk to us Hattie - please? We miss you!

All the best with another fresh day everyone. Stay strong and focus hard on other things instead of quitting ~ though focusing on the ultimate goal never hurts anyone! ;)

  • Morning,
Well ive survived my first 24 hours and can honestly say I feel carp. Work went OK and didnt think about having a cig all night as I was too busy. Didnt sleep at all last night but dont know whether it was the patches or the howling gales we are having. I did have a rather strange [STRIKE]dream[/STRIKE] nightmare that I was remarrying my ex
Ive woken this morning to find my poor plastic greenhouse has been demolished by the wind (wont be buying one of those again) and my sky isnt working :(

Im taking the kids bowling later so that should keep me occupied for awhile but in the mean time im off to pay the CC my ciggy money for today then start on the housework.

    Good luck everyone

PS Thank you Sue UU for the PM its very motivating x
