I'm so pleased all went well for you, triggerhappy and that you weren't tempted, glad you were happy about being able to stay in the warm too! I hope last night went ok for you too. Best wishes.:)

Well done on Day 5 mmikailian, Day 6 now I'm guessing? You say you're up half the night even though you're going to bed earlier - but it is because you're going to bed earlier - it mucks up your sleep too much as you're not used to so many hours in bed. A bit like your aching body from the exercise you're not used to these thing, but your body will gradually ease into more exercise whereas you can't expect to sleep more hours than your body needs. I'm not exactly sure if you mean that your Mum is now smoking outside too, or if she does so in another room, but if she is, or isn't in the same room as you then really you shouldn't have too many problems or is it not what I'm reading from your posts? BTW, could you kindly put the amount of time not smoked for and the means used on the Title Bar of each post? Thanks a lot, it really does help us all to help you.

You really have been through a stressful couple of days, SF, but if you can get through days like that in the way that you did, you can get a lot more too!!! It sounds to me as though you coped admirably and should be really delighted with yourself!!! :T:T All of the problems were stressful to say the least, but then so is smoking itself! Well done on remembering the water!! From here on, if ever you have similar days remind yourself of the last two and how well you coped and let yourself know that if you did soooo well then you can keep on that way!!! Very well done SF!!!

Brilliant news, xmercx!!!! Congratulations to you and your OH on how well you've both done in your FIRST week free from fags and all the misery they cause!!! :T:T That first week is an amazing triumph and it's there we really start to build on, be proud of yourself and still work a day at a time...looking towards week 2!!! You CAN do it!!! :j

Donna, 4 days is GREAT news and sooo much to be really proud of!!!! Don't let the weekend worry you too much by continually stressing about it, if you can get through 4 days so well (and you have!) then try to alter things about the weekend that have made it more difficult in the past. Changing routines around for the short term can have an amazing affect, so too can adding exercise (however little) to your everyday routine. Take regular short-burst exercise AND keep on drinking the water in sips or half glassfuls and eat fruit at craving! An apple or orange lasts for a good while and keeps you full too, same with the water - and it's the fullness that helps a lot with cravings. I think you're wise in having second thoughts about having a drink tonight, the 2 never go together well and there's too much risk involved. BTW, keeping the lozenge constantly between your cheek and gums might help it taste better, but it's not the same as having it close by to pop in when a craving strikes. It really does make a difference Donna, have another read through the leaflet or chat to your Pharmacist. If you've got kiddies how about teaching them to knit or something similar at the weekend to keep an active mind focused on something different. Keep reminding yourself of how far you've come and how wonderfully you've done and go and reward yourself by buying yourself a little something special at the weekend - something to reward you of GREAT achievements!! All best wishes for the job!! Be proud Donna, you're doing just great!!! :T

Hello Ettenna and a very warm welcome to the beginning of a smoke-free life!! What a marvellous idea your college had in starting this course, I have to praise them for helping folk and I hope you succeed with this great chance! A wonderful idea to do WW at the same time too, I'm a great believer in that quitting and losing weight can be don at the same time! What incentives our kids are too, bless em! You said you've stopped for "have now done about 30 hours!!! Doesn't sound much much does it" Only to a non-smoker might it appear that way, but to all of us either quitting or who already have quit we know full well that those 30 hours are sooooo much - especially given all the cigs we would normally have smoked in that time!! 30 hours are a time to feel immensely proud of - you achieved it!!! I'm sending you a PM, read it through and please act on most of the help there, it helps even further with the success you're looking for. All the very best with your goals and dreams and come on the thread each day to rant and rave about your feeling...or to gloat at how well you're doing and always remember - YOU CAN DO THIS!! :D

Great news life in termoil, we don't get too many that so speedily answer their own questions , but you certainly have - an d in such a positive way too!!! :j You're off to a great start, well done, and the idea of making a payment a day is fantastic!!! There's not much else I can say except keep coming back and updating us about how you're getting on. This thread is marvellous and has seen so very many successes, let's hope you too will add to the list!!

    All the best to everyone!

Can I come back, I was bad last weekend. I smoked 2 cigarettes when I was very drunk. Wish I hadn't as the week before held out during drunkage times. Not sure what happened last weekend, must have been pre dj set nerves that got to me.

Luckily haven't had anything again since but the urges had come back. Easing again now.

Well trust me to put a downer on all the positivity, I have had another crap day and been a right misery guts. I hardly slept at all last night and have had a headache all day that just won't go away - possibly due to ridiculous humidity we're having lately. I wouldn't mind if I was actually wanting to smoke, but I am so not even wanting to go there.

I am so trying to make myself feel better because I am afraid I will crack, I have spent a fortune this week on relaxing / calming lavender body lotion from the Body Shop, taken vitamin pills, drinking nice sparkly water and cranberry juice 'cocktails'. I don't know what else I can do to make myself feel human again. :(

Hellooo there Mat!! I'd been wondering where you'd got to, but convinced you'd quietly been doing so well all by yourself. Right to for most of it....but not completely! Mat, if you really have only had 2 cigs then consider it a blip, forget it and go back to where you were before, which must be around 4 weeks - right? You'd done so very well, exceptionally in all honesty - BUT - in the early days it never pays to risk drinking alcohol, if you have a bit too much then you risk having cigs as your brain's affected by the booze and can't fight any resistance you would normally have had. Push on Mat :D just act as though you hadn't had any. I don't think you'll do it again, there's too much at risk! You can do it Mat, you KNOW you CAN!!! :j

Hi Kiwisaver, if the humidity is bad over there then it's barely any wonder you've such a bad head; best treatment for that is a fair bit more water than you're having now, it does bad heads a power of good. That, relaxation and resting every now and then. You're doing well with pampering youself - which is what you deserve when you're getting soooo close to 3 weeks!!! :T:T Another thing to try with the humidity problems is putting a bowl of water on the bedroom floor throughout the night, lounge too in the afternoons...but being VERY careful to miss t if you need to get out!!! ;) You're getting soo close and doing so VERY well Kiwi, don't buckle - you deserve better than that....and would hate yourself anyway!!!

  • Sue, I wish I could just carry you around in my pocket for instant encouragement! Thanks for being so supportive.

I'm nearly at 63 hours now (the dreaded 3rd day) and I am still thinking about smoking near constantly. I'm able to suppress the urge, but I really hope this passes soon because it's seriously affecting my concentration :(

Believe me triggerhappy, if it was possible to I would dearly love to, you too Donna, I promise as one of these days I'dlove to see you make it!! Lord knows though Donna....you keep right on trying - just don't ever stop!

triggerhappy, I've just sent you a PM to see if it'll help as with Champix you should be doing a whole lot better than it sounds as though you're doing now. If you have a hang up about the 3rd day then please, don't allow it to bother you anymore. So many people seem to have a thing with 3rd day and 3rd week and although I don't understand why, I can understand how it is to get things like that locked into our heads, but not really know why - unless a loved one or another quitter put them there! Did you take the pills for as long as you're meant to before stopping the cigs? Is it cravings you're getting or the 'loss' of what we always believed to be 'our beloved fags'! If it's the loss you're having problems with then read that part in the PM. When I quit Christmas Day 98 I couldn't understand what it was I was feeling until after having succeeded a year later (I believe it takes the complete circle of a year before we know we have quit), but then it hit me, it had been a type of grieving that I'd suffered from, and it really made sense being as we allow fags to almost get closer to us than our loved ones!

What time of day is worse for your concentration, is there a link? Think about it, really think. If you'd sooner then PM me with your feelings, either way, thinking it all out will help you know what the problem is. However, 63 hours is a looong way in and you're doing well time wise, so please, please don't allow the devil in to stop you from fulfilling your dream to quit. Nicotine has messed with our bodies and our brains and you're going through the latter at present, so hopefully, you'll cut your chances of the former. Nicotine will soon have left your system completely (3 days), just be a little more patient for the affects on the brain and mind to settle down and for you to get calmer. Don't give in to that blasted fellar called Nick he has no right to control you and hopefully........you won't allow him to! Keep strong and focus hard on the beautiful things around you and of the world...so much more important than a fag any day! :)

Mat, I'm so pleased you've let yourself off the hook, don't ever look back and thank so very much for coming back and showing the others that - even though folk do sometimes have a knock - they can still get right up again and get on with it. :T:T

Don't ever give up folks, let's battle on, and remember, we all knew this would never be easy....but it could and can be done!

  • Bonjour everyone, everything on track here although I was ashamed at myself this morning as I saw a clean un-smoked ciggie in the ally way & the thought briefly crossed my mind to pick it up, go buy a lighter & smoke it but I resisted :D

Glad everyone else is doing great :)

Bien Ads, et tu? Don't worry too much about your naughty thoughts, I think most new stoppers could have had devilish seconds of "oooh I know a home for that!",....but that if push really came to shove - they wouldn't do it as they know what the results could lead to! Apart from that Ads, someone could have peed on it the night before!!! :rotfl:

Well done on another good day.
