A warm welcome to the thread, Karb and congratulations on having stopped for a whole 4 weeks already!!! :T:T You haven't said to much about whether you're joining us to quit and receive support and help, if necessary, but whatever you do, I wish you the very best to fulfil quitting and never to go back to the smoking world! Just never forget the fact that you too CAN quit and so for life! How have you stopped, by what means?
Thanks Sue. I'm not sure how I stopped to be honest; just done by a combination of willpower and sorting my life out in other areas so I'm less stressed I guess. I never smoked at home or in front of the kids, only ever at work or when I was out with friends or on my own. The first few days was just really because I had some time off work and spent most of it with the family. Then I just decided to see if I could stay off for one day at a time. Probably not even one day at a time, just one fag break at a time. I'd say to myself, do you REALLY need one now or can you wait another hour or so?
I've started coming onto this site again this year to try to get motivation to sort out my finances, which has put me in a more positive frame of mind, which in turn makes me less anxious and therefore less needing of a cig. If that makes any sense
I still get the occasional craving of course, but I havent given in yet. Day 32 now.Debt free since December 2015. It can be done0 -

Afternoon all, lovely to see so many quitters :T
I had a bit of a girl moment today. I've decided I look terrible in my jeans and have sulked about it all morning. Truth is I'm a lazy mare and a bit out of shape, and need to do a bit more exercise and a little less chocolate.
I almost nearly had a thought that I'd just chuck this month away and then start on the fags again, just to see if my thighs would get thinner. Who am I trying to kid - if I kill my lungs I won't be too bothered about the size of my thighs!
Needless to say that thought got a good slap and I sent evil Mr Nic packing again.
I'm sleeping all night, every night now. The first time in about 15 years I think. Feels fantasticThis time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
I have been smoking since I was 17, I am now 47. 30 years, where did that go. Have made many, many attempts at giving up smoking using many, many different methods, nico patches, nico gum, hypnotherapy, zyban, champix, will power. So far, so bad. However, one of my many, many NY resolutions was to give up smoking, again. Have decided that tomorrow is the day. This time Im using will power such is the dire state my finances are in. Main motivations are financial and health. My son goes to Italy at easter which is paid for, however, spending money will be needed and my daughter wants to go to France in the summer with the Scouts which is not paid for and, will of course, require spends. Main motivations in the past have been financial but I think Ive realised that its not just about money. Generally feeling not at my best and quite breathless at times and feel that smoking for nigh on 30 years is taking its toll.
So tomorow a new dawn, no doubt there will be tears, tantrums and general pshycothic feelings will ensue but I am feeling quite determined. Am planning a day of activity in a bid to ward off any nico snaps. Will post tomorrow with progress when one of the children allow me on the laptop, grrrrrrrrr. Not massively in debt, but possibly heading there!0 -

Good luck maccababe! You can do it! Lots of water & keeping busy for the first 3 days (and of course steely determination) and then its about forming new habits. I found I spent so much time on this thread the first 2 weeks and it really did make all the difference - its like a continual love fest, people encouraging and being proud of every minute you don't smoke, read through threads 1 & 2 anything to keep yourself distracted those first couple of weeks. Come on to rejoyce, when you feel your resolve is weakening and then over a short period you start to support and ecourage others - its fantastic! :money:DF as at 30/12/16
