So good to hear it's been another great day Ads, well done. Still, you're getting further and further away now and the further you go the easier it is until it drifts off to days where you forget you ever smoked at all. Isn't it great to think that you can achieve that after being a 40 a day lad!!! :D

So Day 1 for you both then xmercx, it really is brilliant news!!! :j Even that first day is a day to be so proud of so chalk it up as momentous!!! :T

Wooohay sheep-ali, you're doing fantasticly!!! :T It's amazing just how quickly the taste returns...that's we're you need to be careful not to become a food LOVER of the "don't know when to stop kind!!! ;) Have a look on the previous page at a post I put on to Jenny and sailorswife and you'll find some tips on how to hold back as well as lessening the amount etc. Be very, very proud of all you've done! :D

GREAT news elfen!!! :T OK then, tomorrow when you THINK you might want one remember these words - of yours "Chewing gum right now to stop me wanting another one, it's just habit, I don't really want it.." It has all been just a habit..a very nasty one indeed, so push ahead into the fresh new life you're creating piece by piece. Keep at it elfen you WILL get there!

  • Oh drats Elf,try to not even just have "the one" In the early days I thought "oh one won't hurt" but I didn't give in a the moment passed & before I knew it I was back on track. I must admit the first few days are really tough but if you stick with it, you just carry on. Take each day/hour/min at a time :) you can do it

  • Hi everyone. I am joining you all as a quitter. Tomorrow is my day as I am having two dental implants done and you cant smoke for at least a week afterwards. So I feel if I can go for a week without smoking then I dont actually need to go back to it. Its going to be really difficult though, but Im sure reading all your posts on here it will give me all the encouragement I need. I will just have to take one day at a time and keep myself busy (reading this thread!!!)

hey sal I'm having the weirdest dreams also - really long epic ones, often have some element of work in there and I keep waking up at 3am and being awake for 30-45 mins thinking about some work tricia so it may be about the smoking rather than hormones? I usually sleep like a log so is very unsual for me...

I am embarrassed to say :o:o:o I had to go to the emergency dentist at the hospital last night as I have a particularly furocious gum infestion that just isn't clearing with over the counter meds :o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o

the dentist informed me this is common with giving up smoking as the smoke restricts blood flow to gums and then when you stop normal blood flow returns and the gum issue can then florish :o

Nobody told me about that little gem...

    (sorry to be so gross!)

    Hi determined new ms,

About 2 weeks after quitting smoking, I had to go to an emergency dentist in the hospital too, but to be honest, this was because I didn't have a dentist at the time as they terrify me:eek::o. Anyway, I had an absess that was keeping me awake pretty much all day and night and I've never felt pain like it:mad:. Sorry, my point is, that some people will experience similar symptoms when quitting and it is not gross at all, as if they are aware it may happen, then they can do something about it when it does. I still hate the dentist, but have started going, although begrudge paying for someone to dish out pain and often tell my dentist that:rotfl: I hope you are getting better now and everyone is doing ok.

OK, Ads, I'll believe you and if what you say is true then I'm chuffed to bits. It shouldn't get any harder for you though, yes, there maybe days like yesterday, but otherwise you should go full steam ahead from here on, reaping the benefits of having stopped, as you go. A day at a time Ads, but you have a great frame of mind and are talking out your feelings..a great trait. Keep it up and enjoy your quit.

Hi Red, good to see you.

Hi Jenny, How wise is your lass - and how sensible you, her dear Mum, is! She really has done you proud on such an important day, one that could easily have seen you falter and return to the demon Nick. Please let her know just how she's helped you through such a time and well done both of you on having such a lovely relationship, a delight to see. Good for you for listening to her, Jenny and for taking note at the time it was necessary.

No, elfen, you hadn't failed at all. I can understand you being fearful of not having any on the first day, but you did only have the 2 and you now know you got through the rest of the day ok, so you know you'll be alright tomorrow. You're using the patches so tomorrow'll be a good day. Enjoy being free from the hold it's had over you and move into a far healthier world where cash is so much easier to be found!

Hi Penelope, great to see you! You're both really doing wonderfully well, encouraging others too which is always good to see.! It's so good to see how little you're missing it, good to see you've so quickly let it our of your lives...with joy in fact! Well done and keep up that superb work!

It's been so very successful again today everyone, let's look to another for you ALL tomorrow. It's possible to quit and enjoy it, why not when you're getting your health back. Have a good night everyone.

    Hi Sue,

I hope you are well. I have quit the dreaded weed, but come on to try and encourage/support the others who are going through the same things that I experienced. Keep up the good work

It was 12 years on Christmas Day! I quit in 1998...seems like a lifetime now. I always said, if I could quit for a fortnight I could quit for life and nothing at all would ever induce me back to that awful habit, a habit that takes life away from people so very, very easily. Apart from marrying my DH and having our kiddies it was the best day of my life!!!

Aha...I get it now, maz, I remember it now, thanks a lot.

Hi Red, yes..I know who you are, I was here the first day you introduced yourself. Thanks for the help!

OK everyone, have a good night's sleep and another good day (or better elfen!;)) tomorrow. It can be done, you all know that, in which case you know that you too can do it and be free from fags for LIFE!!!!!!
