Not enjoying this at all. I'm kind of begrudging not smoking. I know I can smell better and think of pennies etc, but I quit because I literally have no cash - not for my health or even for myself.. just literally because I have to prioritise my funds.. so no prep beforehand.

My problem is I like smoking. I use rolling tobacco to save cash so I could carry on.. I don't do much "for me" so to speak, the past 2 years have been really tough, I've had to give up a lot of things and smoking was the last thing that I had that was mine to have.. Sounds sad I know but it is like saying bye to an old friend in a way.
Anyone else feel like that before?

You've had some fantastic comments about this already, but have a read of this:

I have posted it before, but being a 'newbie' you probably haven't seen it.

Not had a good time...........still having massive problems with flooding in a house I look after - the owners are in California..........had a car crash last Tuesday............my 5 yr old cat had to be put dowm on Sunday after having a blood clot on her spine which paralysed her.

Not once did I think that inhaling nicotine would make things better tho'!

Yeah it's in that sense a good feeling when life is in shreds around our ears and we don't think that nasty nic will help. It took me a while a few times this year. But <touch wood> I crave tea or coffee and perhaps nice cake in order to solve a crisis now. Much lovelier.

And I'm so sorry about the cat. I hope she went peacefully onto the shadowlands and is happily propping up a pile of mice all just for her now xxx

  • Crisis! My prescription for lozenges did not arrive. It may come later but in the meantime I have none left & if they do not arrive, I face a 30 mile round trip to the nearest chemist to buy some.
So far, giving up smoking has cost me money. Not to mention the weight gain. I remember now why I went back to them on previous attempts.

Hi xmercx and a very warm welcome to the thread! Of course you can join, in fact it's always good to see other quitters come to join.

Have you been eating alright when taking Champix? I don't know a great deal about it as I quit by cold turkey, but I well remember Alan & Daz advising people to eat at the time of taking the pills as that stops the nausea. Also I remember those complaining of it's nauseous affects feeling much better after taking food at the same time. The increased dose will have had an affect on you though, it's bound to really, have a look through the leaflet and see what it advises and weigh it up with just how nauseous you are and if you believe it necessary then don't hesitate in speaking to your Pharmacist or Doctor.

I can understand you being nervous about quitting - but - once you stop you'll realise that you had absolutely nothing to fear and have so much to look ahead to - especially in planning a Wedding and LIFE!!!! Meanwhile, go through the threads, you'll find a lot of advice and inspiration to help you both through this, the best time of your life...the quitting I mean! :D

Keep chatting to us and letting us know how you're going, as it really is good to talk with quitting.

sheep-ali, please try hard not to panic. Until your script arrives please read through the PM I sent you as there really is valuable help to guide you. Drink water, either in sips or 1/2 glasses. We've had no end of folk attributing their success to water and fruit and both being the best aids in quitting - it also helps in battling against putting extra weight on! Drink a glassful about 3/4 hr before each meal and you'll find you won't need so much of the meal. Sip it the rest of the time and you'll find yourself far fuller in general. Take a fair bit extra exercise from what you're used to and it helps against adding any AND in losing what you have. It really is possible to lose weight and quit at the same time IF we try to help ourselves! Please don't be so quick to think things like you've said in your last sentence...unless you really do not wish to quit. You need to be strong to help you through this and just remember that a quitter never wins! Stay strong and determined to do this and IF you put any weight on after doing all I've suggested you can start on the weight after you've quit. All the best sheep-ali, but please come on here more often and talk, it truly does help!

So pleased to hear that last night went so very well, Adam! It sounds like quitting's possibly the best thing you've done for yourself...and the further away you get the more days like today you'll be having - trust me please! Ye, you may get an odd troublesome day, but I'll bet the following one is tons better!!

Ross, are the pain meds for anything you can talk about here? If not then please don't get shocking us with TMI!!!! ;) Either way, I hope you're Dr is able to prescribe you more.

So sorry to hear about you problems DD, especially the death of your poor cat. It's always a sad time when we lose a much-loved pet as the're part of the family. Well done with not feeling like a fag and knowing full well that to have succumbed would have done absolutely nothing for the situation and set you back months - if not years!!!

That's a bummer, but please don't let this make you give up giving up, if you have to make that trip then don't hesitate, just GO!!! This giving up malarkey is costing me more money too, I got my second parking ticket of the week, due to not going outside for smokes I've gone over the time limit on the two hour pay and display.

Welcome to our merry band of quitters Xmercx! :T Well done on cutting back already, it's nerve wracking and exciting all at the same time isn't it? I can't help with the Champix questions but I'm sure someone will be along shortly who can.

I've had a really slow day today, feeling so, so tired and not my usual chirpy self. I feel like my brain has attached to some other person's body and I'm feeling like my every move is laboured, slow and weary.
