The Giving Up Smoking Thread - Part 3

Thanks for that, topsyturphy, very sad for him as well as his loved ones. You're right though, it really does make you stop and think and stick hard to stopping once and for all! BTW, I know exactly what you mean about the names, we really have never been this busy! All the best TT, stick to it, and that walk will have done you a lot of good!
As people are telling you, Det Dawson, it's far better to take the patches off at night...though you may still get the occasional "smoking dream", that happens to the majority of us and is the brain acting after all the powers and years of nicotine. You'll get there though and are doing wonderfully!
Well done, Kiwisaver and good to see you doing what YOU want to do rather than listening to dictators. Try not to get too hung up on the paying for patches though, the least stress in your life the better it is for you. Why not cut them in half as Tricia does? Is it possible to go out of work and come home a different way to help with the habit part of the 5 o'clock problem. Pop into a cafe for a drink, a walk in the park anything to have something different to look ahead to.
Congratulations and a warm welcome to the thread nannon! You've taken that vital first step and stopped! Well done for you. I'm sending a PM with help for you, but as you say you've done it all before and you CAN do it again. This time though - make it for life - keep free from all the extremely nasty diseases that might just come your way IF you don't! Whatever happened to push you back into the smoking world last time do you utmost to avoid it this time around, it's never, ever worth it. How about chewing some ordinary gum whilst going to work.....taking a walk in your breaks. Alter your daily habits as much as possible and keep right on talking to us - no matter how you feel. We both know what you can do with your savings now though don't we!Keep strong nannon!
Hiya Sally, the water melon affect stops you walking?? Waddle all the way - I did - had not choice! :rotfl: Keep scrubbing Sally, I'm glad you're packing your bag ready...best to be ready for the great occasion....so long as you do it pronto!!!
A warm welcome to the thread, goodgirl80, though I don't know about "chaps"...there's a lot of us gals here too! Oh, you could soon do wonders with your debts if you give up the evil weed, but you could do a whole lot more for your health if you quit and stay free from fags. They're never worth us messing our lives up over. We have a great support system on this thread, make the best of using it. What means are you quitting by? All the best for the 1st Feb! BTW, I've a PM to send you, but you need to let me do so, if it's ok with you, could you 'enable' PMs to be permitted, you could always stop them after if you wish. Thanks.
Hi there Andy! Good to see you over here encouraging the stoppers to keep right on until they've QUIT. How long have you been free for?
A warm welcome to the thread, jennyo. I love your reason for wanting to stop, keep bearing it in mind - please! You're getting on extremely well so far and have to be congratulated for sounding so positive! The 'missing something' is how we all describe it after we stop, but the further away you get from stopping the least you're troubled by it. Thanks for the feedback about the hypnotherapy, whatever works for us all is just fine and should be kept in mind. Stay strong and keep as you are - you're doing so well.
Hi Jammy, it's always so good to see you here, someone still quitting but who knows she will, yet so able to urge everyone to do the same. Thanks Jammy, you're a gem! :T
All best wishes everyone - and for anyone tempted to light up - think about what happens once that smoke enters your mouth....all the areas it goes to...what's at risk as a result....what could happen to you IF you take a puff - worse still IF you carry on. PLEASE talk to us and free yourself and don't become....another statistic!

Hi guys, I wonder could I have a bit of advice? I have mastered getting of the fags during the week but at the weekend I slip up, this is the second weekend this has happened, I go all week without a fag and slip up on a Friday or Sat night when having a drink, am I going to have to give up alcohol to beat this as it seems to be my stumbling block, I can't believe how easy it is during the week, the first week was a bit tough as I was breaking routeens etc, but last week was fine and this week seems to be going ok aswell, its the damn weekends.0

RMPLC: I'm a store manager so have to get to work early sometimes;)
Sue, again thanks for your encouragement - helps as always
Well done to everyone else on another smoke free day.
Today for me hasn't been so bad.
I've had a few triggers through out the day but have just made myself busy with something else and it passed.
I'm definetley gonna take all your advice & try sleeping without a patch on tonight to see if I have a better night than last night.
This journey I've had so far has been really tough at times but I'm determined not to let this beat me, I'm putting £6.10 a day extra in to my savings so I can treat myself in a few months to something that I would otherwise have spent on fags.
Keep it up everyone.Smoke free since 19/01/110 -
thank you for the welcomes, I'm glad I've found this thread, other times when I have given up, I've often failed at the 3 month mark, and with that fast approaching it will be nice to have support.
the world I live in now is a little easier to give up smoking, all my family have already quit, and it is so socially unacceptable now.
I have been enjoying reading all your posts everyone is doing so well.Debt Free Dec 2009non-smoker 19th Nov 2010Trying to lose weight 40lb/42lb

firstly congratulations you have made THE bestest disission ever to be a none smoker :T
and you are making good progress, looks to me like you have answered your own question if weekend drink is your trigger just now , maybe change your weekend activity to something else ?
going to the pictures or a sporting activity, or bowling somewhere where its difficult to smoke at same time ..just until you are strong enough to stop the association or do you have a none smoking pal that will "pinch" you hard if they see you wandering off to fag light land ??
just a few thoughts
good luck x x0 -
Hi slugger, it's a shame this happens to you, but at least you have the chance to do something about it, you know exactly what the problem is and, as Jammy says, it's a 'problem' you can do something about. Leave the alcohol alone until you're much stronger fag-wise. Alcohol can be a blighter, as even if you're determined not to smoke any more, have one or two .......or 6 as blokes do and it messes with your mind and you allow yourself, albeit unwittingly, to....
....."ahh...alright then, just the one".
Take a firm hold of quitting and then be very careful never to let your guard down as your health is so important to you so keep hold of it and stay off of the fags. Have a drink when you're better able to but always stay in control.Remind yourself of how well you've got through the weeks...then push onto get more weeks behind you. You CAN beat this!
Well done, Det Dawson, keep up the determination and stay busy, both of those'll have you staying strong.
jennyo, your family will be soooo very proud of you iff you too can beat this addiction. Stay with us and let us help you through the difficult times. Try to forget the time factor for now and focus on being proud of all you've achieved. Don't become 'bored' with quitting and the mind can make you believe you are. You'll be ok Jenny, stay determined - and healthy!
Keep at it and strong everyone. This is one of the greatest things you'll ever do and you owe it to your health.

I was never a big smoker. Some days I wouldn't smoke at all, and typically I'd only smoke around 3 a day when I felt stressed at work.
Even so, my last cig was on 28 December, so tomorrow it will be four weeks smoke free.Debt free since December 2015. It can be done0 -

well done karb it doesnt matter how many or how few we smoke its a controling influence on our lives PLEASE dont be tempted to have even "Just one " its a slippery slope and as you have found smoking isnt the ease of stress its the cause ...
keep up the great work and welcome to our smoke free journey x x0 -
Nearly 6 days
I think I'm addicted to quitting if thats possible. Such a good feeling which surpasses the few wobbly moments I have for a ciggie through out the day. :T
