Hi maz, you're bound to be emotional at first, there aren't many of us that can say differently, but if ever you feel like crying - let it all out, you'll feel so very much better after. You've listed some excellent things to do to help you, but the one thing most beneficial to you and is missing is - water and lots of it! It really is such a help, not to mention having real cleansing abilities for inside the body and out; keep sipping away at it or having a 1/2 glassful and wait to see how it helps. It will certainly help with that head too! The hypnotherapy CD or any relaxation CD will help a lot, use it/them and reap the benefits. The walks will do you good, get your circulation going and help you relax. They will also help you sleep easier as well as help keep any weight off too. Many of us tried to tell you yesterday not to go back to the beginning, but to look upon yesterday as a hiccup..a blip, now forget it and just move on with whatever day you would have been on now. Just remember that alcohol in the early days/weeks (depending on the individual) isn't a good idea, you seem to be sure that was your problem so you know what to steer clear of! ;)

You did really well at your Sister's, Det Dawson, another good day, just beware around smokers! Regarding your query about the taste/smell of tobacco or smoke when you breathe out - I don't remember it happening to me all that time ago, but who knows, we're all individuals and it may easily be happening to you ...but if it is use it to help you know you're getting cleansed from the inside out. Things like that never sound daft at all, it's a whole new experience you're getting used to so who knows what to expect. Be pleased about it Det...though you'll obviously be much happier when it stops. Drink plenty of water! Tomorrow will be 5 days, but it IS a long time...possibly the longest you've gone for, you deserve to be thrilled to bits at every single minute without fags and we're delighted for you. You're doing wonderfully well, very well done! :)

Hello there Sally! Still doing fairly well I see, great news. You seem to have a lot of emotions chasing each other there, though you shouldn't be too hormonal at present and certainly not enough to be "very hormonal and up and down like I don't know what". Water, Sally....and lots of it. You don't say a lot about exercise, are you doing any proper exercise? If not then at least get yourself out for a walk a day. I don't know about you but in the last month of my little ones I was scrubbing the house from top to bottom and couldn't find enough to do. Push yourself into as much as possible, Sally and remember don't fret about what you're not having - you have so much to look forward to! BTW, well done on your thoughts to sheep-Ali!!! :T

Hi Yorkshireman, well it seems as though you know your weak areas and not entirely amazing that your two major 'wobbles' were on Friday and Saturday - the days you turned to your tipple or 3! Have a look through the PM for help, but do be very, very careful of alcohol and if you can - leave it for just now.

Please sheep-Ali, read through the PM I sent you, you'll find things in there to help with how you're feeling IF you wish to help yourself. Coffee as you're finding out can be a big trigger as we've all used that and a fag together. If it isn't another trigger then try tea instead..or green tea even. Hot chocolate, orange juice any other cold drink - it's not the same as a coffee, but it'll help you through the early weeks and then you can go back. Where necessary alter everyday things right from the beginning of each day, it helps believe me, sheep-Ali. How have you got by during the last 20 days?

Oh what a real joy to see you back again, Carl! Many, many congratulations on making it through that 1st fantastic YEAR!!!!! :T:T:T:T:T I've got to say though that I'm not a bit surprised as you've been one of our star pupils ....so to speak. I'm delighted for you Carl and couldn't be more delighted.

Have a really good week everyone, take it a day at a time, but make each day count for a lot - it's a gift you are giving yourself - cherish the thought of getting life back and fears gone!

    Hello

Yeah I found the link for the SilkQuit meter, I look forward to waking up in the morning and seeing that another day has been added to the count :D
Don't do what I did - nearly stopped smoking permanently by tripping on the stairs in a hurry to see my first day click over:eek:

Hi & thanks to everyone for the support & encouragement.
This has not been any easy day - very irritable ( ready to kick the cat for looking at me!)
Problem is I associate having a coffee with smoking. What can I substitute for the weed as I am not giving up coffee!
I changed where I drank my coffee - for the first couple of days I drank it standing up - NOT prepared to give up coffee :eek:
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

    Day 17 champix

oh my goodness I can't keep up with everybodys names. Had a good day today even had a drink this afternoon after walking the dog in epping forest for 2 hours and didn't even think about smoking.

Sue - unfortunately my db gf dad cancer was smoking related, he was only diagnosed the week before Christmas, had only been unwell prior to that for 6/8 weeks and he died on Friday. Has definately shocked me as he was always so fit and active. It has made me even more determined as he was only 15 years older than me.

Ross - as far as I'm aware, my db and gf are still getting married Friday.

Well done to everyone else. Take care all.

Hi all glad to hear everyone is doing well

Salski, your cravings are getting less and less over time, soon you wont even think about it :)

Yorkshireman, I loved that you quickly necked your drinks to put you over the limit :) although they were wobbles, you didnt smoke, so a big well done :T

Sheep, I was the same at the start of my quit, my friends even went and bought me fags (which i refused) as I would snap at everyone, it will pass though.

In regards to your coffee, I was the same, I changed where I had my coffee at home, then thought sod it, ive got to work through this :)

Stclair ..... congrats on 1 year smokefree :j:T:j:T is it a nice feeling?

Topsy, at least he didnt suffer for too long, that awful illness can drag out over some time, deepest condolences for all that knew him

    Morning guys

Glad to see everyone getting on so well & good to see someone that's reached the year milestone. Last night went well, had a hot steamy bath & got into bed early with a Horlicks & watched Dancing on Ice. I think I only thought about smoking a couple of times but it passed.
Question for anyone who used/is using Patches, should I be taking the patch off before I fall asleep as I kept waking up a few times in the night & I don't usually do this? + I could swear that when I did fall asleep I woke up feeling depressed because I thought I'd caved in and had a quick ciggie, impossible though as I have no fags or even a lighter in the house now - I guess this was the "smoking dream" I had  It was a nice feeling when I figured out that I hadn't actually had a sneaky one though :D

Well I'm off to work now.

Have a great smoke free day guys :)

Yes all advise is to take them off before going to bed. I sat in bed to read last night and being ever so slightly paranoid about taking mine off too early before sleeping I thought I would leave it for a 'while'. Two hours later I woke in a panic because I hadn't taken it off. :rotfl:

I've not had any nightmares or smoking dreams this time around - last time I had patches many years ago the advise was to keep them on 24 hours and I had a terrible time.
Kiwi - that is so shocking  apparently you must assume a child role when you stop smoking in NZ then???? :rotfl:You do what is right for you, you know your body! They probably are in kahoots with the manufacturers!!!!

You're right I live in a stupid little country that thinks it knows better than anyone else when it comes to most things. It's made me really mad  actually, the more I think about it. They're willing to fully fund eight weeks of 21mg patches, which goes totally against the manufacturers directions for usage and then you're on your own when it comes down to weaning down and off the blessed things. The bigger picture part of the process (I feel) is going through the phases and seeing yourself reducing dependency.

Hence today I have reduced my patch by approximately one third and kept the spare bit for the latter stages. I'll perhaps go with this one third reduction for the rest of this week and go to halves if I feel up to it next week. Although I am obviously saving money by not smoking I am hopping  at the prospect having to pay for the lower dose patches - especially as this was not made clear to me from the start. I feel a letter of complaint may be brewing!!

Anyway I've been fine today, I still got that 5pm anticipation of a smoke when I walk out of the office. It's the only one that gets to me every day. I've been to the shops and gotten home without wanting to stab someone or biting anyone's head off - so that's progress. :T

    Hi All,

Well I have quit because I literally have NO money:(. I used up the last of my baccy yesterday and the old adage "you always find money for ciggies" did not work like it has done in the past for me. wondering if this is a sign??

I am not using any quit aids, I am going cold turkey. I have been a smoker for 12 years.. I quit for a year 4 years ago (when I was pregnant and until my son was 4 months old) and I went cold turkey then. So I reckon I can do it again :D

I could do with some first day/week advice from any of you lovely people (using quit aids or not) on how I can stop thinking about fags as its driving me round the bend !!
On a positive note I would have usually smoked 4 fags on the way to work and had 2 on a break now but haven't.. so Im pleased with that.

It's great reading the stories of people on here.. Everyone is doing so well... really spurring me on.. so thanks chaps and ladies!:T

Well done on quitting hun! Your right - it must be a sign as I like you - always find enough money for fags!
As for advice - think of your triggers and try to avoid them...you say you smoke on the way to work - give up work! Haha no Im obviously joking - but chew a pen or a lolly on your way to work? On your break still get out of the work place by going for a quick walk or something? After food - get some carrot sticks or something to crunch on, or again go for a walk, a bath etc.
