Det Dawson, welcome to you, well done on having done 4 days already, you say this is your second attempt, if you dont mind me asking, how long was the first one for?

    Hiya
First time around this time last year was only a couple of days as I broke up with my ex partner of 5 years. I found myself smoking a whole pack of ten, one after the other when the going got tough and actually enjoyed every one of them
But I'm at a happier time in my life now & really want to succeed this time

Congrats on being 2 months smoke free. I'll get there :D

  • Hi rmplc, thanks for your advice. Good to hear from someone who's been successful with Champix :)

I can definitely imagine giving up before my quit date. At the moment it really feels like pure habit rather than needing to smoke.

I've booked my car in for a valet next Sunday to get all the tobacco reminders out of it (which it desperately needs!) and I don't have much in the house so it should be fairly easy to deal with. I'm looking forward to it, though not without trepidation!

welcome guys :) I promise the fear of giving up goes as soon as you stop - weird but that's the nature of addiction :o nasty ole nic trying to keep his claws in us!

3 weeks in - woooohooooo :j - and I still just take it one day at a time ("I won't smoke today definately, but tomorrow if I want to I can") as if I think for the rest of my life that's too scary - and if we take the hedonistic school of thought all any of us have is now neither the past nor the future exists (opps getting all philosophical :o)

    Good luck x

Trigger, champix in my opinion is worth its weight in gold, I gave up about 3 days before my quit date.

LOL thats somehting that always being spoken about on this thred, the valeting of cars once youve quit, its well worth it though, just to get rid of the smell more than anything.

Det Dawson, ahh thats understandable though, a huge amount of strees just after a quit, we have all done it, but the important thing is you are trying again.

I would suggest you both read back through this thread, and if you have time scan the previous 2 threads as there are some nifty hints and ideas to assist with your respective quits.

Also if at anytime you feel your not coping etc come on here and rant with us, there is usually someone about if there isnt we are not far away.

Hi Determined, WOW 3 weeks that has gone really quick!

I agree with you the fear and trepidation evaporates as soon as you quit and get through them first hours.

In regards to you thoughts about giving up forever, i done the same as you, no smokeing today but can have one tomorrow, pretty soon you dont need to do that, i dont even think about smoking anymore YAY

Just a check up ..... Has anybody heard from Azkaban in the last few days?? hope she is ok?

Welcome Trigger and Det Dawson :wave:

Keep posting, don't be afraid to ask questions, rant, moan . . . . I agree with Ross that reading the previous threads is useful as well. I think everything I experienced in the first few days has been reported before so I didn't think I had gone mad

Also, if you manage to plough through that lot, you won't have time to consider smoking :D.

We can do it TOGETHER :j:beer::j
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?
  • Thanks for the warm welcome folks!

Lovely to see you back and doing so very, very well, topsyturphy, many congratulations on 16 days fagless!!! :T:T How sad your good news had to be put alongside the very sad news of the death of your Brother's GF's Dad's. Such a sad shame he didn't get to live to see her married, such a sad shame for your Brother and S-I-L to be too. I hope his death wasn't smoking related, but if it was that it spurs folk on to not letting the same happen to them. All best wishes to your Brother and especially to his dear girlfriend.

Congratulations on that 1 WHOLE week free, Kiwisaver!! :T:T Wonderful news, though regarding the patches, you're your own person and no your body best so go by that more than the Pharmacists! You've had some good advice given to you by Tricia, she ought to know what patches are like, especially where halves come into it - that's all she's known so is her speciality! :D All the very best with the next week, patch trials too.

Tricia, thank you so much, but in all honesty, it's a pleasure to try and help others, though if Jo had never started it off in the beginning - I wonder just how many dear folk might not have been lucky enough to quit.! Right place, right time and right person for certain! Bravo Jo!!!:j :T:T:j

It's so very good to see you back again, Det Dawson and this time sounding as though it could be the right time for you to quit too, I sincerely hope that's the case. Keep chatting to us this time and pass on your exact feeling, good or bad, to us all as we're all only to pleased to help and encourage wherever possible. All the very best to you! Keep the following sentence of yours in mind - "I'm at a happier time in my life now & really want to succeed this time."

Congratulations on 3 whole weeks FREE form the evils of fags, DNM!!!! :T:T:T You had some rough times but on the whole you've been pretty euphoric about it all. I'll bet your 're overflowing with pride and why not!!! I couldn't be happier for you DNM, keep up that great strength!

Brilliant news about you stopping triggerhappy! I'm so pleased you have Ross totalk about Champix to, he's doing really well and had no hindrances as yet. A very warm welcome to the thread, please keep chatting to us and letting us know how you're doing. There honestly is nothing to be fearful about when you stop, yes, it'll affect you prior to actually stopping, but I've no doubt at all that you'll want to quit before then and find it a breeze and relief to do so! All best wishes!

Keep at it everyone, and every moment passed is a moment closer to victory...and once you get there the taste of success is so sweet, but YOU all will have done it all by yourselves! Bon Voyage!

    Afternoon,
Aaaah thankyou for your messages they made me cry, but I have been quite emotional this week :o
They've gone and i know where i went wrong (alcohol!) I'm not strong enough yet so i'm currently preparing a be nice to me chart for the next month, including plenty of fruit and veg, nice baths, sun bed sessions, and nice long walks. I'm going to take one day at a time and i've dug out my hypnotherapy CD and going to try to listen to that every day, definetely at weekends.
I have a headache as well :( but i've not had a fag today or had any cravings :)

Maz, perhaps that ciggy didnt do anything for you or your body .... perhaps dont start again on day one, but continue from where you were, with a blip in you progress, it isnt as if you started full blown amoking again, you realise what happened, and where it went wrong, that means your armed with information to beat it .. keep your chin up Maz

    Hi determined now ms,

You definitely have the right attitude. Take everything one day at a time and don't worry about tomorrow until it gets here. Well done you on taking such a positive approach to quitting.

Good luck in your continuing smoke free journey

  • Hi guys,

Thanks Sue for your kind words as always! Will definitely be staying in touch this time.
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome too.
Today's been great although it was kind of tricky when I went around to my sisters house as she & her fiance both smoke but I just took the fag break time to stay in doors & keep my little niece entertained.
Just made myself a nice dinner which to be honest tastes a lot better than when I usually make it - I guess this must be from not smoking anymore. Breathing is definitely more free flowing now.
I know this might sound daft but has anyone else had the feeling/taste of tobacco/smoke when they breathe out? Is this my lungs getting rid of stuff??

I'm really glad to be putting another smoke free day behind me - 5th day tomorrow & although it doesn't sound long, I used to smoke (and I'm ashamed to even write this) :( 25g of tobacco a DAY  so not smoking for this long really is an achievement to myself.

Hope you all are having a great evening :)
